tell me what you think of Vista

I am still looking at getting my very own laptop, but I am scared of Vista. My SIL couldn't hook up her old printer to her new laptop, and says it is because of Vista, now she needs to buy a new printer. Is this going to happen to me?

Tell me if you like it, or problems you have had with it.

My sister tells me to get a Mac, but they are twice the price:unsure:

I like it b/c it is slick and pretty.

I only have it on my laptop so no printer attached. I don't think I've had any more problems with it than other other version of Windows.

It took me some time to get used to it. I don't think we had any compatability problems with our stuff...

Another fan of Vista! I was really scared of it, but honestly, I haven't had any problems. Like Amanda, I had to download a driver for my printer (from the printer mfg website), but it was quick and painless. I asked the guy at Best Buy when I bought a scanner recently, and he said that usually the compatibility issues are if you have a really really old model printer/scanner. Most of the newer models have driver downloads available that resolve the issues for you.

Honestly, I haven't noticed much of a difference! I've had no problems using it, though there are a few things here and there that are different. My printer works fine.

I've had Vista for almost a month now and I really love it! I was worried about it at first just because of all the mixed things I had read about it online. But I have had absolutely no problems, I was able to hook up my HP printer and Canon scanner and all I had to do was download a new printer driver from the HP site and that was really easy to do. All my programs were really easy to install too!

Hmm, it seems as though my experience is different. I'd definitely stick with XP because I hate Vista! I do have problems with it. Photoshop is weird and glitchy. I've had system stability problems too. Basically, my computer does weird stuff! LOL!

I love Vista and like the others I was leary at first. It works great. I did have to get a new printer, but we needed a new one anyway with a scanner. Other than that, with exception for more than a few plugins for my psp, there've been no compatibility problems.

Vista

I hate vista, only because of the reason that it is so security conscious it lets nothing past. For instance, I found a site where you can share programs (I really want to get fireworks etc) but because of Vista, it won't let me download anything. I don't have problems with digital kits luckily, but everything else just will not get through. So on Tuesday I'm getting XP back. I have a firewall and all the antivirus/spyware up and running but Vista just doesn't let you do anything. I can't even save things to my own C drive and I'm administrator for goodness sake. So if you want to download lots of stuff, don't get vista. At least that's the trouble I'm having.

I haven't had any problems with it and really like the way everything looks. There's a few things it doesn't have that you can do with XP (right click and copy/move to folder) but there are ways around it, if you want to edit the registry ;)

Well I'm glad I found this thread. My new laptop is coming with Vista on it. I checked my printer and scanner sites and they have the drivers for it thankfully. Although I think I'll just leave that stuff hooked up to the desktop and use it and the EHD when I need to print/scan anyway. I mainly wanted the laptop so I'm not chained to this desk since my scraproom is in the basement. Also I don't like to be away from the boards when we visit the inlaws! LOL!

Another option is to go wireless with everything if you can. We have our printer pluged into our router so all 3 computers can access it. I also got a wireless USB hub so I can still access my EHDs and not be plugged in.

By any chance are you using Internet Explorer to do this? It could be that and not actually Vista. Try using IE without the addons (find in your start menu/programs area) or downloading Firefox and see if this works. If not, check your session cookies to see if they allow third-party cookies. HTH!

Well I had Vista for a year and honestly it was fine - had no issues and everything ran smoothly until unfortunately I installed goober and it blue screened me randomly every time I did a start up. Out of frustration - I created a dual boot on my laptop and added XP to it. I won't lie it runs much faster and more stable now. I also saw that Microsoft has decided to ship out a new operating system in 2009 so on the fence on what I am going to do when I buy a new laptop. Although a Mac does sound nice.....

I have vista on my lappy and I actually really like it. I haven't had and major problems with it....I was very hesitent about getting a new computer bc of vista but I am glad I did!

That is what I mught just do, our computer is in the basement too.

So do you guys have trouble downloading kits you buy from great sites like SSD??

I have no problems d/ling stuff :). the only time I did have a problem was when I was using Download Them All. That didn't work so well for me.

another Vista user who loves it here! I have NEVER had any problems, other than it won't run PSP (although, if I actually had a newer version, it would work, but I won't be upgrading it), but thankfully, I have PS to use as well, and it loads without a problem. Downloads are quick and painless, from any site I visit.
Both my printers/scanners have hooked up without a problem (of course, if I had ink, it would be perfect, but that's a whole other story. lol).

I actually hate working on XP now. I dread having to use the desktop at home when hubby is using the laptop, and of course, have to use XP at work too, but that is because the program we use for work hasn't been upgraded to Vista compatibility yet.

I'm looking for a laptop this summer too and I was worried about the same thing. Glad to know that most of the bugs have been worked out. I'm excited to get one so I can still get my scrappin' done while I hang out in the yard with my little girl.

Vista and I have a love hate relationship LOL
Actually it's not as bad as I had heard it would be. No compatibility issues, although I did have to go and search for Vista drivers for my printers. Software was an issue but once I figured where to uncheck the security issues that's never been an issue. The one think I will always hate is I use to have the kit preview as the folder icon so I could see what I had. Now it's this folder that is open giving a peek of what is in it. But very hard to really recognize and see. So made searching for things a bit harder.

I have had no trouble downloading from any sites (including SSD) and I'm also using the DownThemAll add-on to Firefox and it works fine for me every time.

Yea I was pretty scuurred when I got my new laptop about 2.5 months ago. But I've had ZERO issues with Vista. Haven't had to download anything to get my printer or EHD to work. Everything runs peachy keen.

No problems downloading things from any stores either. At first the pop up asking you if you really want to do something are a little annoying, but you'll get used to that pretty quickly. :)
