resizing photos?

Hi ladies,

Is there a tutorial about resizing photos to fit in frames or across your 12x12 layout? I want to learn a way to resize my photos without the proportions being distorted. When I do Image>resize, I can't get it to work AND when I try to make the picture fit by moving the little dots around the selected photo, it looks really bad. I am using PSE.

I hope what I am asking makes sense, I am fairly new to digiscrapbooking so I am not familiar with all the tech. terms. :)

Thanks

I'm not sure about PSE, but in CS you just have to hold down the shift key when you move those little dots, and it'll keep things in proportion.

Hmmm... not sure if it's the same in PSE (I use PS), but have you tried scaling the image while holding down shift? Holding shift, and dragging with the corner dot, will scale to proportion in PS.

In PS, it's under Image -> Transform -> Scale. Like I said - not sure if it's the same in PSE.

Yep, just hold down the shift key while using the corner dots. While you are doing it, your photo will appear to pixelize, BUT, it only looks that way until you simplify/accept the changes (hitting the checkmark in the top toolbar), then it clears up. And if it's still too big for the frame after resizing, just use the eraser tool to erase what shouldn't be showing (because not all photos fit in frames perfectly). :)

Can you make a shape to fit under the frame and clip the picture to it in PSE? That's what I always do, makes life way easier.

If there is a layer to clip it to, yes...but not all frames come with a layer below to clip to, kwim. But yes, you can...it's Ctrl+G.

I make a shape layer myself, and then clip to that, is what I meant. I didn't know if you could do that in PSE :)

I always use Edit-->Transform-->Scale and then decrease (or increase) in 10% increments. I picked that up from a Scott Kelby book. He says that will reduce the chance of pixellating your photos when changing sizes.

From what I understand, that's for increasing size. Reducing shouldn't pixelate. :)

Thanks so much. I knew it had to be something easy but I just couldn't figure it out. I look forward to trying out my new found skill when I put my little one down for a nap.
