I've been reading all the threads about Nora Roberts and Stephenie Meyer, etc. I have been in a reading drought for many months now. I have a long, long list of books that I want to read, but I just can't get into anything. I have always been a big reader and I used to read a lot of classics and stuff that was kind of heavy and deep. In my heart, I still love those types of books. But, these days I just can't get myself through anything. The last books that I read with any excitement were the Twilight books, and I totally loved them. But, that was about a year ago now, and I haven't been able to get excited about anything since then. I have The Host on hold at the library, but it will be a little while before I get my turn at that book. So, help me out here.

I'm looking for something that is really engaging and well-written, but not something where I have to really concentrate on the language. I want easy reading but not so easy that it's inane. It still has to be good writing. I just need a great story that will really hook me.

So, throw out your best suggestions! Help me out girls!
 
hey Lyd. . .I haven't been reading as much lately either! I have Austenland, by Shannon Hale on hold at the Library. Crossing my fingers that it will be a quick engaging read.
 
My fave writer is Jodi Picoult... her stuff is AMAZING. It's easy to read, you get totally sucked in, and her books always make you think. It's been like a year since I read my first, and I still think about it. They are deep in that they keep you thinking about them long after you've finished reading & make you really think about how something like what she's writing you would impact your life. But they are fiction, about people, who end up feeling like your own family. REALLY awesome writer.

But I wouldn't read them if you want light fun reading. Her books are awesome, but there are lots of tears and sadness too.
 
Mmmm...yeah, Jodi Picoult ROCKS. I've read about 4 of her books, and have 3 more sitting here to be read! :D

I don't mind the topic being emotional or thought provoking - I just don't want to have to think really hard about the language of a book to understand what's going on. I usually love doing that (like with Dickens), but I need a break from that right now. Thanks for the suggestions. I heard about Jodi Picoult recently. I'll have to give that a try.

Jodi Piccoult is AMAZING!!!! So is Nicholas Sparks. And I'm really into Fern Michaels' vigilante series right now. :)
 
Oh, haha. My bad! :D Well, then...umm...don't mind me...I'm an idiot.

I'm reading The Thirteenth Tale right now for a bookclub (on GoodReads, lol), and I was kinda resisting reading it cause I didn't know if I would like it, but it's SOOOO good. I'm really into it.
 
No worries Bree! You have a long list of friends on there - it would be easy to lose track! I'll check out The Thirteenth Tale as well.

Kathi - any particular Nicholas Sparks book you would recommend for me to start with? I have a few of his on my list of toeads. I'll have to look into Fern Michaels.
 
I've read The Choice by Nicholas Sparks...SO good! And The Notebook, too. I've got A Walk To Remember on it's way to me, too...can't wait to read that one!
 
I loved PS I love you - and I also like Chick Lit for a fast quick read - I LOVE the author who wrote Bridget Jones - Helen Feilding - she has a super cute book she put out Olivia Joules and The Overactive Imagination - LOVED it for a funny quick summer read -
Good in bed - starts SLOW - but soooo worth it!!!!

OK, ya'll want to read a REALLY good book, that's a tearjerker, for sure...

All The Numbers by Judy Merill Larsen

OMG, I read that one last August, and I have to tell you, it's one of my FAVORITE books of all time. I think the only one above it is My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult.
 
I love Jonathan Kellerman, Faye Kellerman, James Patterson - mysteries

I also like Danielle Steele, Joann Ross and Jude Devereau - romance
