Does anyone here have fibroids? If so, what was the course of treatment? Was it a wait and see and just keep an eye out type thing or did you eventually have to have them removed? I hope nobody here has them and I'll get no response because they really are some evil things.

I think my OB noticed I had some when I was PG w/#1, but she did tell me that they can go away (or shrink?). Well, I've given birth to both #1 and #2 by now :D and a couple of other exams after them and she hasn't mentioned them. Well...I think once she mentioned quickly that they had shrunk or something, I think. Anyways, luckily in my case nothing has to be done yet.

amy, i've never had fibroids personally, but after nursing for 5+ years i'm under the impression that they are not removed unless you are symptomatic (ie. pain, pressure, excessive bleeding, anemia from the excessive bleeding or any type of obstruction in the bowels and sometimes urinary tract). i'm not sure how symptomatic you are but most ladies in the past would just have a hyterectomy, these days there are newer procedures to just have the tumor itself removed. so that is good news. definately consult someone about all your options, maybe even gather a second opinion.

I have never had them but my SIL just found out she has one and they are just waiting to see if it shrinks on it's own..they do sometimes!!!

Where are you asking about - you can get them in different places. I had breast surgery to remove one and also had a hysteroscopy to remove one. The breast one they had to remove to rule out cancer (the Dr told me he was pretty positive it was a fibroid tumor but they can't know 100% until they remove it and send it to pathology. I think its more of a liability issue for the Dr. than anything else...to cover their butt on the 1,000,000 to 1 chance that it could be cancer and you could sue them). The fibroid tumor I had in my uterous and was keeping me from getting pregnant (discovered it after have tests done after a year and a half of trying to get pregnant) so I had to have it removed so I could get pregnant. I got pregnant the month after it was removed :) .

Cindy.....hmmm....you are making me think.
I was talking about uterine fibroids. I haven't been on birth control in 6 years. While we're not the little rabbits we used to be me and hubby are most certainly not abstinent (TMI yeah I know LOL) and still no more kids. Just my one little girl. I wonder....... about time for a check up anyway. As bad as i hate them and put them off way longer than I should, this month has bothered me so bad I simply cannot stand it anymore. I have the excessive bleeding and anemia deal and it's just getting worse. I couldn't stand up for more than a minute or two last night I was so dizzy. It's just a lot of crap to deal with when they flare up. I'll spare you the icky details cause I'm sure you already know LOL

And i"m glad yours were not cancerous! Whew, that's scary!
