Do you keep your layered PSD file?

I'm seriously wondering if I should continue to keep my layered layout files. In the four years that I've been a digi scrapper NOT once have I gone back to my layered file. Right now I keep a large file (12x12), a web file, and the large PSD file. Is it overkill?

I keep mine but I don't know why. I guess I'm scared. I actually save my layered files as .tiff files, which saves quite a bit of space--but I really should clean out. I guess I keep waiting until I print them just in case I need to change something, but I don't know. So I'm no help. :)

I don't..I keep a full sized jpg, a web jpg and that's that. If I have a lot of journaling on it, I will keep the PSD til Iprint them just in case I made a journaling typo or something. When I do keep them however, I flatten all but the text layer so it's not huge

I don't keep them...just the full sized JPG. I upload the full sized file and the web file to FlickrPro and then delete the web file too.

I don't delete anything but I did lose my external/everything recently :cursing: so I'm starting over again & I'll continue to save everything again...

I keep them, but I burn them to DVD as soon as I have enough for a full disk, so that it isn't taking up HD space. You never know ... I have lost sooo many of my jpegs over time, that I would rather have my PSD file, just in case.

I keep mine becuase I am INFAMOUS for spelling errors! and that way I can go back and fix my error before I have it printed...but once I upload my images to the web and scrapbookpictures.com, I delete all of my jpeg files...

I keep 'em. I'm a compulsive tweaker and storage is cheap these days. Maybe I won't have to, but before I print anything I need to know I'm able to go back in there and fix anything that bugs me. Whether it be a mistake, something I'm just plain better at now that I'm more experienced, something I found the perfect element for after the fact... it's just the way I roll. ;) :)

I don't keep any..spelling mistakes are apart of life..HAHA...

and I normally print right as i finish so if I made a mistake I can fix em

I totally agree with T, I don't save anything, and I am a typo queen, I can SPELL, I just can't type...well, most of the time.
I am human and I sure want my family to know that!

I keep layered files for EVERYTHNG- layouts and also my design stuf-elements and papers. I would feel very limited if I didn't keep them all. lol I do save as .tif files which are close to half the size. :)

I keep them. There have been times when I needed to make an album FAST and just replaced a picture or title, so it's been handy to have them. I think I might start burning them to CDs and then delete them just to free up some space.

I keep the layered files. I delete the jpgs though, figuring I can always make them since I have the psd file.

Just found a typo in my most recent Shutterfly book. It doesn't even bother me that much, which must mean I am mellowing in my old age.

For the first 2 years I kept everything (layered file on CD only). After I realized I wan't using them, I stopped burning to CD. Now I print the LO soon after finishing it, check for typos, and then delete. In the 2 years since I stopped keeping layered files, I haven't missed them.

Well...maybe I should say I didn't miss them until this week. DH just volunteered me to do a Shutterfly book of all the LOs of his parents with our kids, and my LOs aren't Shutterflyeady. Not really a big deal, but I'll probably have to add a white border around them.

I keep the layered files. My reason is that I never know when I will get around to printing them or what size they will end up being printed. The quality of a resized .pspimage file is much better than the quality of a resized .jpg, especially if you print it once at 8x8 and then get a coupon for a 12x12 book and want to include it in there. I don't keep the .jpgs except the web resized ones. I burn the .pspimage files to DVD once I have enough to fill it.

I keep them until I print them, then I burn them to DVD and delete them from my computer. They take up too much space to keep on my hard drive.

I do, once they are burnt to DVD then I delete them off the computer.
Theres few times that I have found typos after I have had them printed (argh!) and have to go back and fix them.

I have been wondering about this too!! I have all of mine right now, but I desperately need to do some clean up.....I might just save them to discs....I am so scared of deleting them.

I don't. I keep the full sized jpg and a web jpg. Why I keep the web jpg is beyond me, actually. I do have spelling mistakes.. in a shutterfly book, no less.. but that's pretty much me, so whatever. LOL

I keep everything just not all on my hard drive. I usually burn the big files to DVD and keep the jpegs on the computer. I just can't bear to ditch everything...but then I am a hoarder so that's no surprise lol! Oh and good idea about the tiffs...I've been saving everything as PSD's.

Fee :)

I dont. I do a full size jpg and a web size jpg. I upload the full size to my gmail account then I delete the full size and keep the web sized for awhile then I delete those as well. :)

I did it!!!! I cleared out nearly 50 gb of layered files!!!! I made sure that I had a large JPG before I hit delete!!! My hard drive is thanking me right now!!!!

I keep them, but I burn them to DVD as soon as I have enough for a full disk, so that it isn't taking up HD space. You never know ... I have lost sooo many of my jpegs over time, that I would rather have my PSD file, just in case.

Add me to this camp!!!

I save them, but I didn't realize a .tiff file was less space. Does it preserve the layers and everything? How is it different?

After reading this thread, I will admit that I rarely go back into the PSD file and change something because the changes I make are usually after finding an error in printing ... I don't have nearly as many pages printed as I would like. Maybe now that I have a free book credit I will make a book and get several pages taken care of at once. That would be so cool.

Great question! I am surprised at how many people don't save either their PSD or the JPEG. I would be terrified that my printed copies would be destroyed somehow and I wouldn't have a way to re-print them. Call me overprotective I guess, LOL!

Good for you! I still have to go through mine, I've kept everything from the beginning of time. Must be so liberating!

Most of my files from last year are a mess, lol. So I chalk them up as a lost cause and move on.

So far this year, I have all of my PSD's. I also have gallery sized and now full sized. Once I get all the full sized uploaded (to scrapbookpictures, shutterfly, photobucket, and artscow) I'm getting them printed. Once I received a printed book, I'm deleting all the PSD's.
