Remember all that talk about RAW!?!?!

Well I decided to give RAW a chance...just to see what it was all about. So I set my Rebel to the RAW + JPEG setting (just in case I didn't like the RAW or I couldn't figure it out I didn't want to lose any scrap worthy pictures :D :D) and clicked away the other night.

So after a few hours this morning trying to figure out how to open these dang files I got this..................

JEPG version

RAW version (I just tweaked the WB a little bit)

Of course it was just a bit more work, but I think once I get use to the process I definitely love the options (and results) of the RAW!! Of course now I have about a BILLION more questions about RAW and will probably spend the rest of the day glued to this computer trying to find those answers!!! :D :D

Wow, what a difference! I was glued to the PC all day Monday figuring out PSE 6.0 so I totally get the need for more info!!!!!

wow there is a huge difference in those two photos!! The first one looks fine but when it is compared to the raw version you can see like a bluish tint to the JPEG. Now I really want a SLR LOL

I'm so clueless.. don't even know what RAW is... but I can definitely see the difference. WTG being brave enough to try something new.

BTW I wanted to add that I figured out how to open my RAW files in PSE3.....I couldn't at first and I was using the program that came with my camera but after an extensive (and exhausting :D) search I figured out that I just needed to upgrade my Plug in.

Which I didn't mind using the other program...but it was like...holy crap one more program to add to the ole 'puter and slower her down even more.......... :D

So if any of you ladies use "older" PS programs and want to try RAW just google your version of PS and Camera Raw plug in and it'll get you what you need!!!

ACK...didn't mean to be a "other program user" hater!! :D If you use something other then PS then your DSLR should have come with a program to read (and convert) your RAW images. I have a Canon so I can only tell you about that one (but I'm sure if you google Nikon or any other camera you can find out if your's came with a program).

Anywho my Canon came with a program called Digital Photo Professional (DPP) and from googling it, it's quite a good program. It's on a disk called Solution Disk and you just install it and it will create a short cut on your desktop. Open it up and drag your RAW file into it and away you go...it was really easy to navigate and then you just go under either File or Edit and it lets you convert it and save it anywhere you want to on your computer. Then you can open it up in your scrapping program and have at it!!

hope that helps someone!!!
