New Baby Stories

Brynn's little monologue in the kitty thread about the first month of new-baby-hood got me thinking about the madness that is the first few weeks after childbirth.
So, here's what we're gonna do. We're all gonna share a story (hopefully on the funny side) about our time as a new parent.

Here's mine...
When my oldest son was just a couple of weeks old I was in the thicke of that "night-of-the-living-dead" part of having a new baby. I got up in the middle of the night (for like, the MILLIONTH time) to feed and change him. So, I nurse him, change his diaper, and stumble back to bed for another precious hour or two of sleep. A couple of hours later he wakes me up for another feeding and diaper change, right? So, I feed him and then I go to change his diaper. And this is when I realize that, in my sleep-deprived state during the previous diaper-change, I had forgotten one important step. I FORGOT TO TAKE OFF THE WET DIAPER! I had simply put a nice clean dry diaper on OVER the wet one!! So, poor kid was wearing one VERY wet diaper underneath one VERY dry diaper. lol
I'll never forget that.

We had triplets and were just totally sleep deprived for the first few months after they came home from the hospital. For the first 2 weeks, we set up a crib in our living room and camped out there since we were on a four hour schedule and it took an hour and half to get them all fed, not to mention time to change and love on them. I think it is one of my fav times in our marriage, we had CMT on 24 hours a day, it would just be background music fading in and out as we went through the motions.

Once we transitioned upstairs, we were terrified of bringing the babies in to our bed if they cried, but did so on occasion. A few times I would hear a baby crying in the crib next to us and debate about getting him or giving him a few minutes to settle down. Ten minutes later I would wake up with a start, not sure if I ever brought the baby to bed and would wake up frantically looking for the baby in our bed. (which there never was)

There were a few times that I went to get a baby in the wee hours and realized I was holding it upside down. :o OMG that sounds horrible, but I can't help but laugh now at how discombobulated I was.

Sometimes I would forget which baby hadn't gotten changed yet or who already had their bottle. And then pray like heck that someone wasn't missing their lunch :P

I had just about forgotten those things, thanks for the jolt. :)

Oh Jenny, that is so funny!

I'm trying to remember those first few months with my boys.... but they are a little blurry.

OMG... How could I have forgotten? Okay, my DH and I had a routine when Logan (my third) would wake up in the middle of the night. He would get up to get the bottle, while I changed Logan. One night, I woke him to get me a bottle and he got my my laptop instead... just handed it to me and collapsed back on the bed. Another night he brought me a hand towel from the bathroom and the worst one was the night he handed me a dirty diaper. LMAO... My family gets the biggest kick out of his tiredness and teases him all the time!

DH was changing a diaper, and apparently, DS was not finished doing a #2. I am breastfeeding at the time, so #2s sometimes have a bit of er, velocity. Just when DH peels back the dirty diaper, but before he gets shields up with the new, DS launches the rest of #2. DH adroitly dodges, and you know what ends up on the carpet. Enter our beloved dog, who thinks DS is the best thing ever and wants to help clean up the carpet. DH immediately yells for me. Screaming DS, hyper-helper active dog, panicked yelling DH. I'm fuzzy stupid from lack of sleep, block the dog from the carpet spot, look at DH and say, "Why did you move?"

Then I realize how that sounded, and DH and I are laughing hysterically in our tiredness.

LMAO You ladies are cracking me up!

I am sure I have tons but I cant think of anything right now, my mind is still sleep foggy!

Ohh these are funny - great Friday reading! :)

I have a similar story to Nettie. It was one of the first nights at home with my oldest DS and it was one of the many night-time feedings. We were changing his diaper and DH opens the diaper, lifts the little guy's legs and it's like he has turned a switch on - DS does #2 and it's like it shot out of a cannon and it just wouldn't stop. It took DH and me soooooo much by shock that we just look at each other wide-eyed and speachless while we have poop just about everywhere. Then instantly we both at the same time start laughing so hard and my DH is trying to hold my DS's legs still and put the diaper back on before we get more everywhere but he can't. I laugh so hard I have tears in my eyes and we both are just left there standing scared to open the diaper again! Oh it took us forever to clean it up because we were laughing so hard, it probably wasn't very funny but we were so exhausted that it hit both of our funny bones. Oh goodness, we still mention it from time to time and start laughing.

My fav was one night when I was changing Abby... I had gotten my cell phone out because when she was fussy, I played ringtones and she loves music, so she'd calm down. Well.. I must have been UBER tired...

Threw the diaper away... about 4 hrs later.. can't find my cell phone.

So Jeff calls it.... the trashcan starts ringing. And yes, ladies, it was a poopy diaper. Sigh. I had to get a new phone, I just could never get the smell out.... <gag>

Omg these stories are so funny!

I can't think of anything right now but I'll be back if I think of anything.
