Help me save a photo

This was my daughter's first time on a jet ski. I like the picture, when I took it I thought it looked good from my view...but um, yeah. Not so great.
Seems like when I get the shadows right, their skin color looks crazy. Fix one thing, the rest messes up.
It's giving me a total fit so I was wondering if you girls could help. I have lightroom and pspsxi, and luckily I shot in RAW. Thank you!

My before and about as good as I could get it without slaughtering it after-

please note.. I have NO idea what I am talking about :D :D :D :D

but... I think you can prolly save it pretty easily. All I did here was pull the curves way up & adjust the shadow/highlights (oh and I added a soft soft lense blur to the backgroudn cause the trees got noisy.. ) I'm sure the colours are wrong LOL .. but you know what they're supposed to look like and can slide those around easily too right ? :D :D feel free to ignore my completely NOT helpful babble.. I just was trying to say I'm a noob and I'm sure you can do way better than this :D

WOWWWWWWWWW
you girls went and edited the thing for me? I knew I loved this place!
Dudettes, you rock. You are not afraid of the photo editing controls like I am. I don't know why I'm paranoid of over exposing a photo. Blabber blabber blah

THANK YOU! Kisses, hugs, kisses, a sip of my mike's hard lemonade for you :)

I was trying to do it in lighroom maybe trying to be all profession ALLL and stuff with it doesn't always work. Must overcome fear of overexposure, repeat.

I can't thank you enough. These are great!

The perfectionism has reared its ugly head tonight. Went to see family at Lake Gaston and I took a bunch of pictures, so I"m sitting here all stupid acting scared of lightroom and messing the pics up :D

Amy, I think it's always a bit better to underexpose (not a LOT) but a bit, rather than over...you can always bump the curves on the under, but if you blow it out, there's not much you can do.

The thing is, just play with the pic, if it comes out bad, just start over! It's not forever. Great pic by the way!

Okay this is no where near as good as anyone else's but figured id post it anyway, its to adorable not to play with!
