Anyone have any good suggestions for soft-type meals? My DH is getting his wisdom teeth out tomorrow and is all worried about what he'll be able to eat. He's been saying for days that we need to go to the store to get him food but I'm not really sure what to get. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Well he won't feel like eating much at all tomorrow.
When I had mine out, I stuck with soup (like chicken noodle) and pudding. After a day or so, he might be up to eating some mac & cheese or instant mashed potatoes. Burritos and pasta are other options. But at first, it'll be little more than soup and pudding. :)
Nothing that he'd have to drink through a straw.
And you might buy some tea bags... they're great for chewing on if you can't get the bleeding to stop.

Don't get anything he has to suck through a straw, like milkshakes. He could pull the clot out of the hole (I know thats totally disgusting, sorry), and end up with an infection on top of everything else.
From personal experience, I don't recommend chocolate milk.... I'm not going into details... lets just say I didn't drink milk for about 3 years after. Ugh!

Good luck with that! I ended up vomiting for 2 straight days, so food wasn't exactly a priority for me. I also had to keep the ice packs handy because my cheeks were SO swollen (my teeth were impacted).
Between that experience and the horrible trips to the dental school for teeth cleanings when I was a little girl (3 hours of pure torture), I have developed a bit of a phobia...even if I was over 30 before getting my first cavity.

Definately no straws...DH did that and got dry socket b/c the blood clot came out and he was in PAIN.
I remember eating mashed up ravioli from a can when I had mine out lol :)

I think these are great ideas! mac and cheese isn't so bad because you could swallow it without chewing if needed. :)
I was exhausted from the meds but I ALWAYS have to eat--I think my diet was pudding and mashed potatoes. good luck! eeks! Knowing how it made me feel, I would not like my hubby to go through that--you know, since men have a much lower pain tolerance. :)

Oh I was so lucky... I went through that totally painless when I was 17 yo
My dentist remove them because he said the two of the bottom didn't have space, I spent one day eating ice cream, chicken and mash potatoes.
And for the two of above I didn't notice when they were out till my next visit to the dentist for a cleansing...

:) Oh the memories - I had all 4 out at once my senior year of high school (summer before college actually) and I was in SOOOO much pain. I couldn't take the pain killers either b/c they'd put me out for literally 2 days straight.
I ate a lot of frozen yogurt (TCBY kind, not Dannon) and Uncrustables (Smuckers) b/c they're super soft, and soup.... and Snapple :)

I lived on KFC mac and cheese when I got mine out.
Very healthy. :p

And add me to the list that can't handle the meds. Even 1/3 dose of narcotics knocks me out COLD.

Mac & Cheese and cans of Chef Boyardee spaghetti & ravioli are what DH ate after he had his out. Plus yogurt, applesauce and oatmeal.

I remember eating lots of mashed potatoes .... if baby food didn't taste so awful, I'd recommend that.

Fluids are a must...BUT NO STRAW and only small little sips the first day as to NOT REMOVE THAT BLOOD CLOT...yes, I am screaming about that one. A dry socket will happen if that clot is removed and it is worse than any other pain I have EVER had in my life. I have had 2 dry sockets from 3rd removals and it's HORRIBLE ROTTEN.
I pray he is doing all of them at ONE time. Just do it all and get it over with. I did mine in two settings 11 years apart! Notice the time frame...put it off as long as I could!
NOTE: I am a Registered Dental Hygienist and deal with this issue all the time. So trust me!!! wink wink
GOOD LUCK!
