I learned that the 90th Canadian soldier killed was a good friend of mine from high school, Erin Doyle. We spent about 3 years together at the same school, hung out with the same friends.

Before I got pregnant with Cody, we had always said we would join the military together. My life ended up taking a different route, but he followed through with his dreams. Sadly, all the news reports do not mention his teenage son, who I also know. Mathew's mom and I attended a teenage mother high school program together (at a different school), and Cody & Mathew attended the same daycare together then.

Erin left behind his wife Nicole and their daughter Zarine, as well as Mathew (and his mom, also named Nicole). Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.
 
sonja! that is so terrible!! i am so sorry for your loss and will definately keep his family in my prayers!
 
I'm so sorry, Sonja. When they said he was from Kamloops it caught my attention because I had family there for years and they still know so many people there. I always get choked up at these things, but I really got tears in my eyes as they were describing the gentle giant that he was.
