Anyone know how hard it is to make these? I have like literally no sewing skills at all but I totally am drooling over the ones on Etsy. Unfortunately Im a cheap ass and dont want to spend that much money on a dress LOL.

OH my gosh those are adorable! They don't seem like they would be super hard to make but if you were to rely on me you'd be better at buying it LOL

They don't look that hard. I went to a craft fair with my mom a couple weeks ago and there were tons of these and she said she could make me some very easily. I don't sew though, so I can't tell you how. :( They are sooo cute though!! I hadn't realized that you were talking about these (I don't go to Etsy very much!)

sooo cute and they look totally easy peasy! find a cute printed case, cut of the top part that is the closed end on the case, cut out a semi circle on each side for the arm pits, gather pleats in the front and hem it then sew on hemmed ribbon for the armpit area and shoulder straps. voila! the bottom is already done!

They are adorable! Unfortunately I am no help. I'm still trying to master sewing on buttons. :p

omgoodness, SO adorable!

totally makes me rethink my stance on not having more children.

but seriously, who can risk having another boy? {except emmy, of course, who has adorable ones and almost makes me think it's worth the risk...}

Well shoot Sarah, mail me the pillow case and I'll make one for ya. I've been meaning to work on my sewing skillz, I just don't have much to practice on :p We'll call it an even trade if ya chat with me about photography :)

These ones arent as expensive but if i could make them they would probably SO much cheaper

I own that first one! I'd love to sew because I don't think these are hard to make!! And, $25 is actually fairly cheap for these on Etsy (unfortunately!).

And how about all the other super-cute peasant dresses and two-piece sets - I'm dying for one, but am not spending that much money on one!

Oh Col you are SUCH a sweetheart!!! Please pm me anytime with any questions, i would love to help. I am my3hens on yahoo there too so dont be shy! I am still learning as I go a long but its always fun to learn together right!

Melissa I love that first one, its just GORGEOUS! I thought these were a little more reasonable then the ones off Etsy. I googled Pillowcase dresses and some were charning up to 60 bucks!!

OMG they are just about the most darling thing I've ever seen. I took sewing classes and I'm surprised that these didn't come up. Now I'm going to have to make my 2 girls and DBF's 2 girls matching dresses. I googled these and found an ADORABLE watermelon one that was obviously not a pillowcase but same principal, Every girl needs a watermelon dress :)

Thanks for the heads up and BTW these are super easy to make even for beginners

Those are adorable! They look pretty easy too . . . have you done a search on the net to see if you can find instructions? I've had good luck with that on other things in the past. :)

Edited to add that I should have looked at all the responses before I posted. lol Looks like everyone got you covered! :)

these are adorable! I've never used a sewing machine, but if i ever get around to getting my grandma's old one from my dad's i could teach myself

or i could sew it by hand; i'm pretty good at that, lol.

My mom makes and sells them, so we have tons of them. It's fairly easy to make basic ones, but she has changed and perfected her pattern, so a lot of time and effort actually goes into them. They also require more fabric than you would think because of all the gathers. They are super cute, and very versatile. They'll last several years b/c when they outgrow the length, you can use them as a top over jeans. They're also great for winter with a long sleeve shirt underneath. I can put anybody in touch with my mom if you want to talk to her about making some!

I love these! I actually found some old (er, vintage?) pillowcases of my grandmothers that I am going to try to make a couple these dresses for my girls. Any suggestions on where to get good ribbon?

Let me know how it goes! I am a newbie to sewing, but I am also a fast learner!

Oh my gosh! I want to make these for my girls!!!! I have some adorable fabric in my basement that has been waiting FOREVER to be used! These are so cute over leggings, too. I want that apple fabric!

OMG, these are just the cutest things!!! I bet they would look cute over jeans too as they get too short! awww, I wanna make my girls some, I don't know if our sewing machine works or not, I'll have to dig it out. I never would have thought of something like that, that is a cool idea!

they are not difficult to make at all. and oh soo cute! here are some I have done for my girls. there are lots of free instructions out there- just google. Oh and $25 is a good price for the apple one- the faric is 9.95 a yard if you do not get it on sale. You can PM me if you need help.

My niece is 7...I need one for her but all these sizes seem to be up to 5T...do they not look as cute on a 7 year old?
Maybe its the pillow case inhibiting the height...

I would guess that the height would be an issue for a 7 year old. You could try making your own from fabric OR using a king size pillowcase...

if you look up at mine the long yellow one is on a 6 yr old and the top size is on my 9 yr old and I do not think it looks funny. And I cut a good 8 inches off the pillowcase on the blue one and used the extra to trim the Capri's.
