Remember how I had jury duty?

Well, I got a call today and they released me. I am soooo relieved. DO you want to know why this case bothered me so much?

There were 125 of us assigned to this ONE case... so they knew that there would be some really strong feelings on this one. WE didn't even meet with the judge and lawyers. We were given a questionnaire to fill out and it stated that it was a sexual abuse case involving a 5 year old girl. It even mentioned the evidence against the defendant: photos and video. I left the court house and couldn't shake the nasty feeling that case gave me. It is horrible and sometimes we act like those kinds of things don't happen... but they do. I just wanted to run home and give Allie big hugs. :( I'm pretty sure if I ended up on that jury, I'd want to jump out of the jury box and strangle that man myself.

Please, keep your babies safe. And remember that the chances of strangers doing these kinds of things is really, really slim... you need to worry more about leaving your kids with FAMILY, FRIENDS, and ACQUAINTANCES. Sad, but true. More abuse happens in the company of those you might least expect. Make sure you really trust your babysitters.

I would have had a hard time sitting on that jury, too. I'm glad you were excused! The only jury I sat on was a drunk driving case, and it was really boring.

I know the statistics unfortunately and you are totally right it is almost always someone you know and usually someone close to you. And the sad part is the men who committ these types of crimes rarely ever spend any time or very little time behind bars. I wont go into how I feel about this but suffice to say I have no sympathy for anyone who would do such a thing to another person no matter how old they are.

Oh hon I am so glad to know you didnt have to sit in for this one, its totally gut wrenching just reading your post!! I hope that man gets what is coming to him!

I don't think I could sit on that jury. My now 15 year old cousin was molested by her babysitter's husband when she was 5. She is all messed up right now and has been in therapy for the past 2 years(since they found out). It has affected our whole family tho. It is truly sad that these men would even think to do something like that. Especially the ones who are parents themselves. Gross!

That would have really rattled me too, it is true you have to watch out for people you know, more than strangers, which makes it even more scary. I'm glad you got excused from it, but I hope the guy gets what he deserves.

I'm pretty sure I'd have the same urge to jump the box and go strangle the accused myself too! what a relief for you not to have to sit through listening to that and what happened to that poor 5 year old! the poor baby!
