NSBR: I think I'm too old for Roller Coasters!!

I also posted this at DST but no one has commented!

I just went to an Amusement Park on Sunday (Indiana Beach) and rode this coaster called Lost Coaster of Superstition Mountain. They just redesigned it to be faster with sharp twists and turns. I had no idea what I was getting into I just rode it because my husband wanted to ride it. I didn't want him to have to ride it by himself so I went on it too. Well, it is deceiving because it looks like it's just a small coaster with not much to it! It whips you around everywhere and fast too! I have to admit that it was pretty fun while I was on the ride, but now I am in PAIN About 20 minutes after the ride, I started having neck and head pain and it hasn't stopped since. I have been using Aleve and ice packs to try to relieve the stiffness and pain. I also feel a little bit dizzy and nauseous from time to time.

Has anyone here ever had this problem after riding a roller coaster or other ride?? I rode other rides too so I guess it could be a combination of all of them. I'm just wondering if I should call the doctor??? I hope I don't have whiplash or a subdural hematoma! I looked on the internet to see if other people had these symptoms and some of them ended up with these conditions- yikes!!

*gasp!* I haven't been to Indiana Beach in AGES!!!! Man, I miss it!! the Falling Star, and the Flying Bobs, and that swing thing that goes over the river, and that othe one called Twister i think!! OMG I wanna go back and take my kids!

I don't much care for the smaller coasters myself. I went on the Hurricane once and it scared me that it just had this bar that goes down over your legs. I'm tall so i felt like i was going to fly out caus i coudn't get comfortable with my long legs in the seat! I prefer the bigger ones at Cedar Point. though I haven't been on one in awhile so i might react the way you did.

Yes, I am from Indiana! I live in Anderson (about 45 min. North of Indianapolis).

Corey- I just saw that you are from Kokomo which is maybe only an hour away from where I live! Yes, I rode the Flying Bobs, Galaxi (roller Coaster), Tilt-a-whirl, Scrambler, Skyride and that Lost Coaster of Superstition Mountain. I think it was that last one that did me in!! Actually, I have Fibromyalgia so I probably shouldn't have been on those rides anyway LOL!

You should try to go again- we had a blast! This was my first time going there and I have lived in Indiana all of my life :)

OK let me first say there is no coaster I would not ride. I would love to ride everyone in the U.S. someday but I do have to say that Gwazi at Busch Gardens in Tampa tears me apart everytime but I love the coaster to much NOT to ride it. It mostly hurts my neck and back a little. It is wooden. The newer steel coasters are so much smoother and Gwazi is the only coaster Ive ever had that problem with and I have ridden probably 20-24 different coasters in my life.

this is so depressing. I'm 36, I haven't been on one in at least 4 years or so... I don't want this to happen to me, I love roller coasters!!!

If it keeps up, Laura, call your doc and speak to the nurse, they'll know whether you should go in or not.

I was about to say maybe it has to do with your fibromyalgia. I know my mom can't ride them for that reason...she gets really stiff and her muscles ache from all the jolting around.

Maybe you should call your doctor and just see what they say.

There are certain coasters around here that I used to love and now I feel like I've been beat up every time I get done with them. It's hell getting old.

Hope you feel better soon Laura!

*****UPDATE*****

Hey girls, I went ahead and called my Doctor. I just got back from there and I do have Vertigo and Trapezius Muscle Spasm! He said that it is mainly because of my fibromyalgia and I do get motion sickness from time to time so I guess I just can't handle any spinning at all!! He told me that I shouldn't ride any rides like that ever again :( I definitely learned my lesson and won't be getting on anymore rides!!

Tracy- I forgot that your mom has fibro. You're right, it is hell getting old LOL!! Thanks for your well wishes :)

LeeAndra- where do you live?? That's funny that you were just here in Anderson!

hope you are feeling better!

I used to like roller coasters when I was younger but now I get terrible motion sickness. I can't even swing on swings w/o feeling queasy :(.

I went last week (Cedar Point) and I feel kinda beat up now. I'm just trying to muck through to my chiropractor appt this Friday.

I had a season pass to Paramount King's Island one year and got sore after riding Son of the Beast, a newish wooden coaster there. I think the wooden coasters just suck. The metal ones are smoother. I'm glad you saw the dr. and hope you feel better!

I used to go to King's Island all the time when I was younger. I rode Son of Beast about 6 years ago and that one just about killed me!! It was awful and I definitely felt beat up after that one!! I like the metal ones much better too. I love metal coasters that do loops and cork screws, but I guess those days are over :(

Thanks everyone! I am feeling a little better since I took the Antivert that the doctor gave me for the vertigo. Just getting very sleepy
