Frustrated!

When I upload a layout to the gallery my shadows always end up screwed up. They look fine on my screen in PSE and fine when I print them as an 8 by 8 on my printer. But when I resize and upload they look like they're on pop dots and are flying off the page. :confused: What am I doing wrong?

Help! :blink:

Is there a LO in your gallery that has an example? It sounds like the optimizing might be off. How are you optimizing?

I'm watching this thread because my shadows do the same thing!! I've noticed that it happens in the stage when I shrink the LO. Can't wait to see what advice people give!

If I use the preset shadows on PSE it's this:
size = 0 px
opacity = 75%
distance = 21 px

If I fiddle around and reduce the distance that sometimes helps but not always. I'm so confused. :lol

You know, that could be it. The first ones I uploaded I flattened and my shadows were fine. Then I stopped flattening since a jpg doesn't have layers anyway so I didn't worry about it when saving for the web. I'll try that and see what happens.

Save for the web automatically flattens your image, so you don't need to do it before you optimize (unless you want to). The problem is that you are over optimizing. The file size of the image you posted is less than 80kb (which is very small). I would save just under 150kb. Dark colors tend to get grainy when you over optimize. HTH!

ETA: I don't know if it applies to PSE, but I posted an optimizing tutorial for PS in one of the other threads posted in this folder earlier today :) https://www.sweetshoppedesigns.com/community/showthread.php?t=13857

I'll check the tutorial out since I obviously know nothing about optimizing. :blink: Thanks Sheri! :thumbup:

If you resize before "save for web", make sure that "resize layer styles" is ON, or it will make it go all wonky. Personally, I flatten, then resize, then save for web. :) My early layouts all did that until I started flattening first.

yep I'd def try flattening first :) Looks like maybe your style resize wasn't on maybe...not really sure...

I had the same exact problem. And everyone here is correct. you just have to flatten first. There is a button(i use PSE5) for optimization sp? that works to. But i really dont know what that means so I just flatten before i resize and all is well in the world (PSE 5 world that is)
