Ok, have finally decided to join 21st century and add text messaging to my cell phone plan.

was thinking that I would get the $5/250 msg per month plan. But then was wondering, if texting was one of those things that once I start doing it, I will want to do it all the time and so I should just go for an unlimited plan?

and what kinds of things do you use texting for other than chatting with friends? Google SMS (http://www.google.com/intl/en_us/mobile/default/sms/index.html) looks cool and useful. and getting bank alerts.

so share with me your thought pls :) on this incredibly important matter :p

DH recently started texting (we have the option on our phone, but we never used it) with our neighbor, she'd get him to pick up things while he was in town, etc. DH and I don't need to do that because we got a buddy system - he can phone my cell 25x free, and I can phone his the same amount of times free. BUT, when we were relying only on our cell phones (which don't get reception in the house, and barely do outside), I would text him with a grocery list. My neighbor only texts because it's cheaper and because we don't really have signal out here, lol...it's enough to text but not enough to talk without getting cut off.

Anyhow, I think 250 messages in a month is a LOT...I know DH and I would never even use that put together!

I love texting. It is my preferred type of communication with my stepdaughter's mother.
Enough said. :p

Do you have a notepad sort of feature on your phone? You could use that instead of texting yourself the list.

I've gone over 500 MANY times. But I already have a huge media plan for blackberry, so I stick with the plan I have (which I currently can't remember).

i love texting. esp when you just need to say a little something and you don't necessarily wanna get bogged down with a long conversation on the phone. or...the person you need to tell something too isn't available to talk, you can just text them real quick and your done. it's really fab. i mean i still call people but sometimes its just so convenient and easy peasy. get unlimited...you'll start to use it a lot!

I have unlimited texting on my phone b/c my BF and I have different cell phone carriers, so it costs me $$ to call him, but not text him. Since my BFF primarily communicates with me through text as well as my sister, that justifies it, too.

Since there are only 160 characters per text (on my phone at least), I use texting when I am at work and need to share a nugget with BF: remind him of an appt, ask him what's for dinner, say 'I love you,' tell him something when he's in class and can't answer his phone, etc. Anything that will need more than one message to convey I will send him an email abt if I can (since he has a Blackberry) or leave a VM abt as soon as I can.

Besides chatting, I've used it before to remind me abt tix that were going on sale for a concert I wanted to go to. I think it was through Live Nation, and they sent a reminder text the night before and then an hour before they went on sale through Ticketmaster. That was pretty cool.

Although I do not have this set up on my phone, I know the local TV station can send you weather/news info through text if you sign up for their free service.

HTH, Meems!

thank you, Lizzy! I had a small epiphany -- I realized that I posted this b/c I basically wanted to be told that I needed to get the unlimited plan, bwhahahaha, I hate to feel limited. :p

My daughter has unlimited. It is better to spend the little extra on unlimited then to get billed if you go over I think

I would get the unlimited too.

Im lucky cuz my BF works for tmobile and we get 2500 total incoming and outgoing texts. It sucks to go over so def get the unlimited you dont want to be paying crazy charges if you go over.

10 cents for each overage for me.

it's $5/250. to get unlimited would up our plan by $30/month but would be for 2 lines . . . there are some other options btwn the 2.

I've tried to text, but it took me almost 5 minutes to type "Been standing in WM line for 10 minutes" to send to Twitter, because I couldn't figure out how to make the W and the M capitals and to get the 1 and 0 to come up.

I'd suck at being a teenage girl. :D

LOL! it does take me forever to write out texts. and doing the thing where it tries to guess the word doesn't come up with the right word for me and then I end up starting over, if my fingers haven't totally cramped up by then.
