Mozy

I finally bit the bullet and signed up for Mozy. It's telling me it's going to take 2 weeks to do my initial backup. Of course, if DS and DH would quit shutting my computer I don't think it will take that long. Twice yesterday they closed my laptop which in turn stops the backup. :cursing: I really want this backup to get done sooner rather than later so I can start burning everything to DVD and my EDH and then start deleting stuff of my harddrive.

Please tell me that signing up for Mozy was a good idea!

You can't back it up to Mozy and then delete it off your hard drive...it'll delete it from Mozy. You have to do your backup to your EHD first, and then backup to Mozy from there.

I'm a new sign-upee as well...been going about a week now. Am anxious to have the initial upload done as well, but I shut my computer off myself when I'm not using it...

Aw crap. Are you kidding me? Now I get to start all over..........

So, I guess will go plug in my EHD and start again. :glare:

Thank you though for pointing this out while I'm in the beginning stages!!!

You'll love it! I've had Mozy for almost 2 years now, and I can't imagine going without it.

But Bree's right, you can't back up and the delete it from your hard drive as it will remove it form Mozy, too. What I do is have Mozy set up to back up both my regular hard drive and my external. So I only turn on the back-ups when my EHD is connected.

But if you back up now and then move everything to EHD. If you choose to back up your EHD, it'll have to start all over as everything has a different drive name associated with it.

My initial back up took several weeks, too. So, don't be alarmed. :) Once it's all backed-up, you'll feel SO much better about it knowing that you don't have to worry about a crash!

When I first started using Mozy, I made sure my computer was on before I went to bed and let the backup run on the fastest speed throughout the night. I've been using it for almost a year now, and I'm so glad I have it.

One more thing about the EHD/Mozy backup. If you're backing up the EHD as well, try hard not to let a backup run unless the EHD is plugged into the computer and turned on. Otherwise Mozy will think you've deleted that drive from your computer and will delete it from their files, as well. (There's a little bit of a grace period--if I remember correctly, they save deleted files for 30 days in case they were deleted unintentionally.)
