I had my glucose test today and my blood sugar is elevated...it was 166. Sooo I have to have the 3 hr test but he's waiting until my appt next month..does that seem a little long to wait to y'all? I mean I asked her when she called if there was anything I needed to do between now and then and she said just to not eat anything really sweet. Honestly I wasn't surprised, b/c I do have a mighty big sweet tooth and being pregnant hasn't helped any kwim?

Ugh I hated that test and I had to do it with both of my pregnancies. I can't remember how long they made me wait, I don't think it was a month but I do remember it being at least a week or two. It's so hard to resist all the good stuff when you are pregnant :)

Well, of course I started researching it lol..and everything I've read so far says that abnormal for the 1 hour test is 180 or above ...so mine was 166 which I guess is why the want me to do the 3 hr but aren't in too big a hurry to get it done? I don't know...all I know is that I bought a box of doughnuts at the grocery store on the way home and now I'm so sad that I can't eat them lol!!

Oh ewwww. I'm so afraid of that. I take mine next weekend. I failed my 1 hour with Libby and passed the 3 hour....Good luck, with the three hour, Nikki!! I had to take that one twice with Libby because I threw up before the last blood draw....I was so mad that they made me come back!! I agree to lay off the sweets, but I've also found that laying off of most thing with high fructose corn syrup in them has helped with the weight gain...hopefully it helps with this test too. (I say this as I finish a Hershey bar, lol!!)

I've failed the one hour with 2 out of 3 pregnancies... passed the three hour both times. But they were never overly concerned either time... I think if your levels were extremely high they might try to get you in quicker... kwim?

That happened to me this last time I was pg too. :( It was sooooo not fun to do that test, but it isn't horrible at least. I just started to get real light headed and nauseaus. They were getting kinda worried cause I just turned like pale white after the second blood draw but in the end my results were normal.
I hope yours goes well!!

you might know this already but thought I'd mention it just in case . . .
it's not just sweets you have to be careful with. it's all carbohydrates. Too much bread or pasta can also elevate your blood sugar.
Exercising will help too, like walking.

Ugh! I'm so sorry! I failed the 1 hour with both pregnancies, but I had to do 5 HOUR ones, not 3. NOT fun! lol.
I hope it goes well!

I just had gestational diabetes, so PM me if you have any questions... before you take the next test... no carbs for a couple of days... you can have all the diet soda you want if your sweet tooth is making you crazy... I also loaded up on sugar free jello pudding and sugar free fudgsicles. ;)

Oh, I forgot, I did end up having slight GD with the 2nd pregnancy. Nothing major, I just controlled it with diet. Crystal Light and Splenda got me through the end of that pregnancy! lol
Dang, sorry about that, Nikki! I really have no idea, but it does seem like a long time to wait. I mean, is there any good reason for waiting that long? Why not just get it done?

Okay, so I live in Malaysia, and Malaysians don't feel like they've eaten a meal unless they've eat rice. So when I failed my gc test while I was pregnant with my first child, the doctor gave me a pamphlet about how to eat on a low gc diet. It included THREE bowls of rice a day. Totally cracked me up.
And Nikki, I had a C-section, and I had to wait like six hours after I ate a measly bowl of cereal that morning before they could do the operation...and when we got finished, Joel asked me what the worst part was, and I was like HANDS DOWN it was going without food for that long. They were like showing me Jack and I was asking when I could eat again. lol

That seems like a long wait to me too. I never did the GTT during my first pregnancy, but during my second I had a 141 on the 1 hour test. My doctor was panicking and wanted me in the next morning for the three hour test. I agreed to redo the one hour since I knew the result was wrong on the original test. My number was 109 on the second one hour.

When I asked why we would wait so long she said that 166 was only slightly elevated and said he wasn't too concerned. My sis is a nurse and I talked with her a little while ago and she said they don't usually get antsy about it unless it's 180 or above on the 1 hr test. So..I'm just going to cut back on the sugar and hopefully do okay on the 3 hour test.
