Anyone here know about changing brakes on trucks? My friend just changed hers and now her tires won't turn, the brakes are locked on. She's stuck out in the boon-docks with a bunch of morons who all they want to do is drink and do drugs, and wants to get home, lol...

Sounds like maybe the calipers are stuck clamped onto the disc... i.e. the brakes have been installed in a permanent ON type way. Or something like that. Craig would know. But if it's the drunk morons that installed them that she has to help her, not sure I'd want them attempting to fix it... being how stopping is kinda important, and such.

Oh, wait, and did they bleed the brakes after they installed them? Not sure if that could be it, but it's important regardless.

Yeah, they've been "helping" her fix it for over a week already. They've told her to get the wrong parts like 10x now, etc. I wish she'd just taken it in to the mechanic, ugh! :( She's at her uncle's place but they're like hillbillies, lol.

What kind of car? Front or back? Both? (Craig is asking this)

Did they mess around with her parking brake at all?

It's a 3/4 ton Dodge Ram. She says now the brakes are fixed but something about her old tire rims are the wrong size so they can't turn over the new calipers? (I know absolutely NOTHING about vehicles, lol).

He just got home and said that it could be any number of things. He suggested taking the tires off and seeing if she can see where it is locking up. He said it might help to know whether it was rear or front and what type of vehicle it is

They changed all 4 brakes, and none of the tires will turn. I'm not sure about the parking brake.

Did they get the wrong calipers for her rim size, or they changed the rims?

Calipers could be too big, rotors could be too big... sounds like a bit of a mess, and Craig thinks it's safer not to drive it than let these morons back in there again.

Yeah, I agree with him Joan, lol. She's getting a ride back into town (like an hour away) to get new rims, apparently. The truck is at her uncles, in the middle of nowhere, she doesn't even have a way to get it to a garage. I'm hoping DH can convince a mechanic he works with to go out there tonight after work. :(

that is pretty much what my husband is saying. There was one time where we bought after-market brakes for our pathfinder and they were a different size then the original brakes and he could not get the drum to fit over them. He had to take them back like five times. Then we bought brake cylinders for our Stratus aftermarket and they were the wrong size also. That could be her problem. Sometimes aftermarket parts do not fit/perform as well as OEM.Did they get the wrong calipers for her rim size, or they changed the rims?

Yeah, after market stuff can be a bit of a nightmare sometimes, and if you combine that with drunk morons who know nothing... not a good mix!

I really hope you can take someone there who actually knows what they're doing, Bree. I feel sorry for him, because that's never fun, but these guys she has fixing it really sound like a nightmare.
