I have exciting news to share with everyone: Jeff and I got ENGAGED this weekend!!!
Jeff and I were coming up for the weekend to my parents' house since I had a bridal shower to attend. The shower started at 3 on Saturday, so Jeff and I had discussed going out to lunch beforehand. He had suggested the day before that we go out to one of the parks in the area and take some pictures. I didn't think *he* really cared abt pictures, but just wanted to get out of the house, as he's been a little stir crazy with his broken leg, and was trying to 'intice' me by promising I could take pictures.
We ended up at the Japanese garden which we had visited the previous summer, and once we made our way back to the gazebo, we got comfortable on the bench and were enjoying the scenery (or so I thought). After a few comments abt loving me and our 18 month anniversary coming up next weekend, he said that it looked like his crutches, which were propped in front of us, were at two different heights. Getting down on the ground, he fiddled with the knobs... and then pivoted so that he was still on one knee. Since he does have a cast, I thought maybe he was stuck and asked if he needed help getting up! *lol*
He said he was just fine and then asked me if I was sure I could put up with him. When I agreed, he said some other sweet things before asking me to marry him! It was so sweet as I could see him tearing up as he asked me to marry him. I was speechless. Since we have discussed several times taking things slow and him not wanting to do anything before he graduates from school next June, I had NEVER thought a proposal would come this year. Of course, I said yes!
The ring is a 1.1 carat heart-shaped pink sapphire solitaire that was mined from the depths of Sri Lanka with a custom setting from a wholesale jeweler in midtown Manhattan. You can see a picture on my Facebook page if you are so inclined.
No date set at all, but with my sister's wedding next June, the earliest would be next October or November or maybe even as far away as April 2010. We are just going to do some research this month and put some numbers together and see what we want to do and what works best for us.
Evidently, plans have been in the works for the last month. He definitely wanted to propose in my hometown where we first met and spent so much time in the very beginning of our relationship and remembered that the Japanese garden was where we had taken my favorite picture of us of all time as well as just being a romantic beautiful private place. Without my knowledge, Jeff had spoken to both my mother and father before he asked, and he had also spoken to his son, Tyler, who is almost 6. When Jeff asked what he thought abt me being his stepmom, Tyler said he would like that and he loved me a lot.
I am so happy and excited to be starting this new phase of life and am still getting thrills from randomly walking up to Jeff and saying, 'Hello, fiance!' *lol* I just wanted to share with y'all!
