So I resigned.....and Guess What Happened?

Just in case any of you who took the time to reply to my "Am I doing the right thing post? last week were wondering. Yes, I did it, I resigned Monday.

Made easy by the fact that I ended up getting the horrible flu going around and was totally incapacitated for five days.

So anyway, I phoned, told them I wasn't coming in and under the circumstances it would be best for me to resign as my daughter is my priority and there's just no flexibility with my job. I pointed out that if things were different then I could give my job the 100% priority it and they deserve but as as mum, my daughter does and will always be the centre of my universe.

My male boss accepted. (THey're a husband and wife team, we work from their house, they have a baby, lots and lots of money...brief summary).

I hear nothing for 2 whole days. Then Yesterday (wednesday as I'm in Australia), I get a phone call from my female boss. I was say exactly what she said as it's kinda embarrasing but to cut a long story short, "I'm irreplacable, noone will be able take my place, my passion, ability to learn things so damn fast and loyalty to my job and customers will never be found elsewhere". And the absolutely wonderful bit "We will tailor make this position to suit your life and your responsibility to your daughter".

It turns out that their baby was sick last week too, and the fact that he didn't want anyone other than his mother made the girl I worked with point out "Now you realise what Rachal means to her daughter as a single mom".

So sounds all good huh? The thing is, I've just picked up two new clients, doing web stuff, flash and design work, so I'm a little overwhelmed. I can do it, don't get me wrong, but to think that I was scared about resigning and then all of these good things have come out of it means I did the right thing.

So I want to say thank you to you all. It was so great being able to have you all as a soundboard and just hear some thoughts and experiences.

So I'm working part time at my old job, just 2.5 days a week, the other days I'm taking my daughter to school and picking her up and working from home too. So I get to keep everyone happy, especially now I have some time to spend on myself.

I honeslty thought "Having your cake and eating it too" was just a metaphor, but I sort of feel like that now.

So pleased it all worked out for you Rachal - There are laws here in Aus that should have protected you all the same - even if they have been a little eroded over the years. Good to see your employers came to their senses and wow what a compliment you earned yourself in the process!!
Couldnt have asked for a better result!!

Thanks everyone

I just hope I haven't bored everyone to tears, but thanks for listening and replying. It means alot

I am SO glad it worked out for you! Just make sure they keep their word, which I'm pretty sure they will since it's obvious now that you mean business. lol

that is awesome!!! i'm glad that they finally realized that indeed your daughter should come first. congrats!

That is really awesome! I know how stressful it can be when you have no flexibility at work and they make you feel horrible for needing time away, even if it is for your children. I resigned from my full time job 5 years ago now and I will never look back!

At least they've had the chance to realize how valuable you are to them and are willing to accomodate you! It makes going to work so much more manageable! Good luck! :)

Congrats girl! When God closes a door, somewhere is opens a window. You have just had a heap of blessings poured out on you and I am so happy for you. Enjoy your new life.
