ok.. Hit me.. Gifts for 5 yr old Boy..

So.. christy is ignoring me LOL-- so I'm posting one big ole thread here so you can lay alll your brilliant ideas on me.


Obviously, I don't have gobs of money, and with his birthday (dec 19th) and christmas are a week apart- I want to plan far ahead and get things going now :) Obviously it's not all about the gifts.. (dur).. but I do want to get him a few nice things btwn the two- since you know, this year has been all roar I want him to have a nice end of the year.

Of course I have zero ideas. I've asked him and he tells me ridiculous things that make no sense.

He has a gabillion little toys- he doesn't really need anything that will annoy me (hahaha).

He loves books-- so if you have some good suggestions that would be cool (he has most of the disney books, and a lot of dino books, some animal ones, some random ones people have given us, and some staple paper backs like james & the giant peach, charlottes web-- that sort of thing he has those)

He loves .. LOVES animals. Dinosaurs.. Crocodiles.. Giraffes.. Snakes, those are his favorites- he does of course have 90 million animal toys, but if you know of something REALLY cool (and not scary, I bought him one of those raptor robots and well, it still has no batteries, it was "alive" ONE time and he almost had a heart attack).

Uhm.. He loves magnetix but has 2 sets- really don't need more.

He loves arts and crafts-- he has a desk, and more crap than he could ever use for that though.


Uhm.. what else. Oh he has one of those kid computer things, but he broke it. It still makes noise though :P Garh.

So... any ideas :D :D LOL and really.. please.. nothing annoying. :D :D :D
 
Game Boy? Leapster? MP3 player or CD player? A cheap digi camera?

Mine are into Planet Heroes, Hot Wheels (there are some fun playsets), riding bikes and scooters and Nerf toys.

Legos are always fun.
 
i just read my first skippy jon jones books. OMG sooo halarious that i ordered 3 more from scholastic.com gabe is 6 and is in love and i mean in love with them. the author is judy schachner i will be back with links to the ones i am waiting on :)
 
Does he like trains? They have some nice train tables, I have one for the boys and it's a huge hit. Not sure if he's past that stage though.

ETA: Although, something like this would be perfect for Ce...he could create his own scary moon cat! :)

Well I think anything I suggest would be useless since I am in the UK. But ebay is a good place to start for unusual presents if you are short on cash. I have also offered a day out doing something instead of wrapped gifts and Lukas thinks that is a cool idea if that helps at all. Hugs Crystal xx
 
My Son has the V-tech V-Smile games and he LOVES them. He plays them every day - BUT it may be a little to "young" for him. My Son is three and plays the games for five year olds...... Hmmm..... Let me think some more.
 
omgosh deb those are too cute LOL. It's funny.. I was just thinking earlier that I Should make him some feltlies based on some of the things I've drawn for him (not kits).. but that would well.. save me loads of time LMAO.

PS.. one thing I Forgot to mention is.. we live in a tiny tiny apartment LOL. While the train thing is really cool.. I'd have to like get rid of his bed so we'd have space for it LOL
 
yep the ds is something i think gabe is getting for x-mas. he plays cass' everytime he can steal it. there are a lot of fun games that your little guy should be able to play
 
I actually just had to buy a 5 year old boy some presents this week! Lol! I got him 2 small puzzles (big pieces to them), a crayola set where the markers come wtih paper and are supposed to be super bright (who knows, it was on sale :p), and a truck (because I can't NOT get the lil boy a truck, lol).

The truck was a huge hit and it was like $3. It's one of those where you rev it up yourself and then it goes farther. He had it going up chairs, up the present bag, and it would flip over and then keep going.
 
My boys really enjoy the shake and go cars, Leapsters, puzzles, uno attack, lincoln logs, pirate ship/toys, treasure hunter (I haven't given it to them yet but it sounds cool!). I also think a cheap digi camera is a great idea. J has one of the kid ones but if I were to do it again, I would have purchased a regular camera. J also loves having his own cd player for his small cd collection.
 
I'll be watching this thread since my oldest turns 5 next month. (Or as he would proudly tell you, in 5 weeks.) He has gotten very hard to shop for lately because he outgrew his earlier obsession with building and hasn't found a new favorite yet. We're planning to take him to the toy store this weekend so he can look around and give us some ideas. Here are some of our ideas and his current favorites.

Current faves:
--art supplies
--cash register
--outdoor things (basketball hoop, bike, and sand stuff)
--videos
--little wooden boxes from the craft store that he can decorate himself and use to hold "treasures"
--his digital camera (We got him the unbreakable kids' one, and I'm glad! It has been dropped so many times, including once down the stairs.)
--books like The Lorax, If I Ran the Circus (both by Dr. Seuss), and When Dinosaurs Came With Everything (by Elise Broach). The last one is a cute story about a boy who is running boring errands with his mother and discovers that instead of cookies, stickers, and balloons, all the places he's visiting are giving kids free, live dinosaurs.

Our ideas so far:
He got his first video game for DH's system recently, and he LOVES playing it. I think we may look into some sort of educational gaming system for his birthday. He also wants us to redecorate his room since he still has the sports-playing bears that he's had since he was born.
 
I thought of something else...I Spy Books! My boys have several of the little board book ones and for xmas we are upgrading to the Big Books. They love the pictures! Those Hidden Picture books are popular with my boys too and they have so many different themes!
 
Hey La. We have a V.Smile with a bunch of boy games that NEVER gets played here anymore (we have DSs now). I'd be willing to "sell" it to you for a really cheap price. Let me know, K? And I'll keep thinking about more gift ideas since I have a kid kinda close in age to Ce.
 
We bought this for our daughter for Christmas... she has lots of tiny 'girls' and animals and thought she could play with them on this. WAY cooler than a dollhouse, and our son will enjoy it too, I think it's cute for boys and girls... he can play with whatever little action figures/animals he's into at the time. If he *likes* playsets, that is.



It has a tire swing, a rope ladder, a hammock, trapdoor thingies... we got it from a seller for $72. That was really pricey for us - but I don't know what your range is.
Books are great. We got our daughter two sets of wooden blocks - nice ones with architechtural features like stairs and roof pieces and columns and all she does is play with those CONSTANTLY. Is he into making simple models, like model cars or airplanes or something like that? That could be cool. I don't have any 5 year olds in the house, so I can't make any better suggetions than these. :)

My sons favorite toys were knex(and they have the cutest little kid knex), lincoln logs, legos and rescue heroes. Ohhh and remote control cars, trains, etc.
