She has to sleep sometime right?

I am dying here...Naomi apparently no longer requires sleep to survive. Must be nice.

Help me! How much did/does your 2 y/o sleep? See, I remember Nathan giving up his naps right before two. But it didn't bother me one bit because he was an easygoing laidback kid and he slept 8-8 so I just got my free time in the evening.

Naomi has all but boycotted naps entirely. When I can get her down, she only sleeps 30 minutes. At night I'm lucky to get her down by 11 and she's up at 8. This is INSANE.

Last night it was 8:17 when we laid down and it was after 11 before she fell asleep. We do bath, story, cup of milk, etc. No kind of routine is working. I'm about to resort to benadryl.

8 or 9 hours of sleep per day CAN'T be enough for a 2 y.o can it?

I often wonder, too. My son does still take a 2 hour nap, thank goodness. But he goes to bed at like 10:30 and wakes at 7:30, shouldn't he sleep more at night?

I dont have much advice, cause my dd is only 16 months and still takes/needs 2 naps per day...
But (((HUGS)) and I hope you can get her sleeping more, or get a good deal on Benadryl... LOL!... :D

For a while, with my two year old, I did resort to benadryl. The amount of sleep that child required was about to kill me. He's a little better now, but not much.

I've got an almost 2yr old who has a 1 hour nap during the day and sleeps 9-10 hours at night. I've also got a just turned 3yr old who gave up her naps just after turning 2 (unless she's at daycare, grrr) and she sleeps 10 hours at night.

My 3 kids have been restless the last 2 days with their sleep but they usually are a few days leading up to the full moon

You're right Lena, it's not enough. Don't let her sleep AT ALL during the day. This is what I had to do with both my girls around age 2. They started staying up 'til 11:00 or midnight... even with just a 30 minute nap. A toddler really needs at least 11 hours for healthy brain growth... and healthy, sane mommy! It might be hard, especailly with the little one, but try to keep her awake and very busy for a few days in a row... she'll pass out around 8:00 and eventually it will be routine.

Benjamin slept even less than that at that age. He is like me, and just doesn't need a lot of sleep. Even now, I put him to bed around 8:30-9 and he's wide awake around 6. Luckily he can occupy himself now, since he's 8.

Amelia used to sleep 8-8 and nap for FIVE hours in the afternoon. It was like we didn't even have her LOL! Rae, she just never slept at all either, but she's gotten better.

Benjamin never ever really napped. Amelia gave them up late, around 3.5. Rae gave them up around 18 months. If I let her have even a short nap, she'd be bouncing off the walls until 11 pm, and I needed her to get into the other kids' schedule LOL

Good luck, I hope she sleeps soon!

My almost 2 yo Piper doesn't nap till ~5 in the afternoon/early evening. Sometimes she fights it till 7, then she goes down for the rest of the night.

Mckenna quit naps when she was 2. She started preschool then and we thought she'd be so tired she'll take a nap when she gets home. But NO....that was the end of her naps.

Chey, 3, still naps, but there are some days she doesn't nap at all. If she doesn't she goes to bed at 8, it's SO nice when that happens. :)

DS gave up naps right at 3 but even with his 1-1 1/2 hour naps during the day at age 2 he was sleeping from 7 pm-7 am. Now at 3 he doesn't nap but he still sleeps 7 pm -7 am.

Oh no! I'm sorry. My almost 2 year old still takes a 2-3 hour nap and she'll sleep 11 hours at night. I hope she gets past this!

Abby {2 1/2} pretty much doesn't take a nap during the day and is sometimes UNBEARABLE at night...and yes, she is JUST LIKE Naomi..NIGHT OWL...usually up until 10-11 pm and up at 6:30 am {but not by choice}...the ONLY thing that works for us is for everyone in the rest of the house to be completely quiet, no TV on, and very minimual lights...then she has nothing to keep her occupied and if she doesn't want to sleep in her bed she will climb up on the sofa with her blanket and then fall asleep or climb in bed with me {while I am on my laptop} on fall asleep. But I TOTALLY feel ya!!! on the weekends though she will usually sleep until around 8-8:30 am...

Wow, I can't believe some of your little ones sleep so long!! My girls have been working on giving up naps for a while now, sometimes they'll take really late naps then be up until midnight. But even when they don't nap, the longest they ever sleep at night is 8 hours. lol, so that means I don't get much sleep except on the nights they are up real late, cause I love to scrap when they go to bed. Most nights I average 4 hours of sleep!

Kylie still naps, usually about two and a half hours. She is usually in bed and asleep by 8:30, but we get her up at 5:45 in the morning. She is also very active, as she goes to daycare. She will be three in December and I am so glad she hasn't stopped napping, I look forward to those naps, especially on the weekends.

Every kid is different, so there could be alot of factors involved, but I would have to agree that she may not be getting enough sleep for her age.

My Daughter and her two children live here with hubby and I....We used to be able to get my 2 1/2 year old Grandson, Diondré down to bed at 7pm but lately it has been 9pm, which I think is to late for a 2 1/2 year old....Just my personal opinion....Diondré used to nap twice a day up until he turned 15 months old....Now when we put him down for a nap OR to bed at night time, we have to constantly tell him to get back in bed, etc. It really wears on a person 'cause I'm sure he has to be tired....He gets up at 6 a.m. if he can....During the day he is like a rubber ball, all over the place, never sitting still....He makes me tired....LOL

I hope someone here is able to offer you some advice, maybe it will help us here too....:)

My kids are terrible sleepers, so I've read a few sleep books. One thing that could be happening is that she's overtired and having trouble settling down. It's one of those vicious cycles that getting too little sleep leads to more trouble sleeping.

Unfortunately, there's no easy answer for how to get her more sleep. My 2 year old naps for a little over an hour during the day and then sleeps from about 7:30 to 5:30. I've tried everything (earlier bedtime, later bedtime, changed naps, etc) to get him to sleep later, but it hasn't worked. I'm a night person, so these early mornings are taking their toll!

With my older DS we had to cut out his nap at about 3.5 because bedtime had become such an ordeal. No matter how short his nap or how early he took it, on days he napped he wouldn't go to sleep until 10. As soon as we cut out the nap he started falling alseep at 7:30 or so in just a few minutes. Even before we cut out the nap, we had to be very careful of how late and long he napped or he couldn't sleep at night. Now he's almost 5 years old, but if he falls asleep for 15 minutes in the car in the afternoon we know he'll be up hours later than usual at night.

Good luck!

Mine gave up naps before her 2nd birthday, and has been sleeping 11-12 hours most nights for the last year. While I love that she sleeps that long, I won't get into the fact that gets up at 5 something every morning.

Both my girls (4 and 2 yo) take a 2 hour nap and sleep at least 11 hrs at night. There are times (like this week) where they will mess around and not take their nap but they do stay in bed.

Hope you get some peace soon! :)

I must be luckier than I thought! My 5 year old and almost 2 year old go to bed at 7:30 and sleep until 6:30. The 5 year old still takes an hour nap, and my 2 year old sleeps 2.5-3 hours for naptime!

Hope you get it figured out quickly! I read Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child, and it helped out alot! It basically says that putting your child to bed before they're tired enough to fight sleep helps, as well as that a wellested child actually sleeps longer.

I have no idea how long a "normal" 2 year old sleep I remember when Lukas was 2 he was absolutely bone idle and would have slept 18 hours a day if we had let him lol. (((hugs))) Lena hope you find a solution soon. Hugs Crystal x

I have this book also, and its great! It does a good job explaining why an overtired child can have a hard time going to sleep.
