Oh no...my little Mason could NEVER let me off easy...hahaha. Today he brings home this HUGE book about sharks (he loves sharks...LOVES them - so I get why he picked the book)...it's like HUGE and 155 pages. About half the pages are just really big photos with a little bit of writing as the captions...but then there are a whole ton of pages without pics and just writing...lots and lots and LOTS of writing. And when I say it's a HUGE book...let me tell you...it fits in his backpack, but you can't do up the zippers because it's too tall. LOL! Huge, I tell you!

So, he's gone to bed now and I finally found the note that he brought home from the teacher saying that he will choose a book every day and that I'm supposed to read whatever book he chooses each night and he has to take it back the next day.  Well actually...HE is supposed to read it to ME, lol...but I kinda think not that book, which is definitely not the right level for a grade 1 kid learning to read, haha.

Yeah...so...I'm just going to send the book back, lol...and pretend I read it to him. I know he looked at all the photos and made up what it said (he was "reading" it to Natalie, lol). Good enough, you think? LOL!

LMAO! I would so have the heebie-jeebies if I saw that book. Ugh. Just watching Finding Nemo and seeing Bruce just about made me pee my pants... lol!!

LOL Sounds good to me! As a fellow first-grade mom, I'd have run screaming from the house if my daughter had brought that home. LOL

hahaha! How cute! Yeah, I'm thinking that kind of book is not what his teacher had in mind when she said to read it and send it back the next day! lol

OMG, LMAO!! That TOTALLY counts!! He learned from the pics....
PLUSSS... if you read everything, he probably would have forgotten alot, cause it would be toooo much info!!! ;)

LOL, i've done that! Whats worse is when Brooke brings home like 12 paintings and i keep them for a while and then i just bin them...... arrrrggghhh like why do they have to bring home that many everyday!!! LOL ........

For a book like that, totally counts. It sounds like he knows enough about sharks to fake it in school today. For the first day of something like this when he's supposed to be reading it to you, I'm kind of surprised no one took a quick look at the size of it and steered him to another book.

So this morning he says "Mom...I have to take my book back to school" and I told him I knew and it was in his backpack. I kinda think my plan is going to backfire, haha...cause he is very honest and he immediately said "but...you didn't read it to me yet".

I'm not sure why he didn't tell me when he got home from school that I had to read it to him yesterday - I probably would have attempted it, at least the captions.

LOL! I was thinking that too... If the teacher ASKS him if you read it to him, you KNOW he's going to say no... actually, knowing Mason, he will probably volunteer that info as he's handing his book in, lol!

Here's hoping he brings home "Clifford" tonight, lol!

this is a huge peeve of mine ... can they not supervise the children and send home age appropriate books with them??
Xander, last year in Kindy, brought home a book all about football - about 1 in 10 pages had a photo!! The rest was all typed out, very long and boring (about 120 pages total!!!!).
Jenna, on the other hand, was sent home a book that a Kindy would read, yet she is reading at a grade 6 level (she has just started grade 4).

Yeah, I dunno. I know Mason won't listen to anyone...if he wants that book, it's the book he's gonna get, lol. I remember when I was in school though...grade 2 or 3 and my brother was learning to read (he's 3 years younger than me), so I wanted to borrow books to help him learn and the librarian was like "Breanne, you can read better than that...you can't check out those books" until I explained why I was trying to get them, lol.

definitely good enough. The school libraries are so sad when it comes to the K and 1st grade books. I mean, the books my dd brings home are ancient! I get a lot of animal books too, we've had tigers, birds and penguins this month and they only bring home one book a week. I'm surprised his teacher is asking for one book each day, usually kids pick it up with repetition so a book all week long gives them plenty of time to pour over it again and again.
