Has anyone used a service to scan photos?

I read a review ages ago on Janet Phillips blog http://scanmyphotos.com/photoscanning.html and the price is certainly right - especially if you do the buy 2 get one free! But it kind of scares me to send my pictures away. And I hate to pay for things before I receive the service since I'm a nervous nellie!

Has anyone used them? What did you think? Have you used another place you'd recommend?

TIA!

Yup! That's the one I did (I think I found it through another blog that also linked back to Janet's).

It was awesome, I absolutely plan on doing it again. It's just a matter of getting time to go through my mom's photos. We're usually so busy when we go to NY, it's hard to pull photos too.

But yea. Totally worth it. Way better than doing it yourself, lol.

Thanks Col! I sent the link to my mom and told her thats what I wanted for Christmas! If you do the family plan and get them for 82.50 a box. I suspect I could fill up 2 by myself - plus my mom and MIL! I'm glad to see in that article that you can put in index cards to seperate the pictures.

The review was very informative, and reminds me again why I need to do this. Most of my first child's baby pictures are regular photographs, and bothers me quite a bit that I don't have his baby time scrapped. Granted, I do have his first year's worth of photos in a photo album ... but once you've scrapbooked ... a photo album is BORING!!! So yeah, I need those saved, plus I'd like to get the pictures from when I was growing up preserved ... I think I might send that link to my mom and see if she's up for the idea. I totally expect that we'd want to organize the photos. That might be the only thing that prevents my mom from being interested ... she's never been as attached to photographs as I am.

Thanks for the topic!

Shutterfly has a service too. I've never used it though.

I saw that on Shutterfly, that is what got me thinking about doing this again. But at .27 per picture, it could easily cost me over $800  I love shutterfly and all, but I could buy my own scanner for that cost!

I've used them and while I was a bit nervous mailing out my photos, they had a very quick turnaround time and I'm really glad I did it.

If you're using them for the first time and are a member of Facebook, Flickr, Myspace, or Blogger, you might want to give this deal a try:

I may use them again to do more photos but since some of my older photos are not 4x6, I can't really use the above deal.

Okay I sooo have to do this.

They even have slide scanning. My grandpa, who is 93, looves reminiscing and I bet he would just love to have his old slides scanned so he can see all his old photos. And to have them preserved digitally means I could scrap them too and anyone in our family could have access to the photos. SO cool!

I didn't even know such a service existed! I'd love to have this done with my oldest daughter's baby pictures so I can scrap with them! :) I've been planning to scan them in myself but this seems like a much better idea. LOL Thanks for the link!

Just wanted to add, for anyone that is weary of sending away your precious photos (my mom was VERY apprehensive so I didn't get to send any of the heirloom ones) that when you ship you can get the delivry confirmation and tracking for a small price. And SMP's always does it when they send it back to you. :)

I'm excited more people are gonna do this! It's such a great way to get some of those older memories scrapped. I love being able to pull up pictures of my siblings and I as lil kids :)

Hmmm...this is a cool idea. I hate scanning old photos - they never look that great. Glad to hear someone has done it and it was a good experience.

I also found this site that does movies and photos www.imemories.com - I'm hoping to get the movies from my childhood put on DVD.

I'm so glad you guys posted about this. I've already emailed my siblings about this and also talked to my MIL. We're going to try to get all our childhood pictures together at Christmas time, then send them off. Thanks for the info!!
