Talk to me about Font Organizing

I use Font Hit. It recognizes all fonts (which TheFontThing doesn't always do), and it doesn't die all the time. You can install and uninstall from it and not have to have all of your fonts loaded in C:. It's free.

AMP viewer works well for viewing, but i don't like it as a general organizer for the most part.

I use The Font Thing ... but I think I might check out Darcy's (aka font queen :)) suggestion. I find TFT kind of combersome and don't use it unless I have to.

**hand smacking face**
der. Why didn't I just PM the Font Queen herself?? Good grief.

Thanks so much, Darcy!!
**off to download now**

I use AMP. Like Darcy said, it doesn't really organize well, so I just use it to install fonts.

Organize?

I also work as a freelance graphic designer and tech writer for my dad's PR firm, so I have a few thousand fonts, I'd like to organize them for scrapping and for designing. It's hard to find a good font for a scrapbook page when I'm scrolling through over a thousand fonts.

That's why I need an organizer. ;)

I toss em all in the folder, so what ends up happening is, I don't know what I have, between scrap fonts and work fonts. I need to organize mine too.

Bryn, thanks for starting this thread!

Darcy, how does the install/uninstall thing work? Do you just install fonts you think you might need before starting up Photoshop for whatever you're going to be working on? Do you have to have the program open while PS is open? Becaue PS sucks up so much of my pc's resources it's pathetic.

I use PS, and maybe PSE is different.

I have all my fonts in a fonts folder NOT in c:/windows/fonts. I have the basic fonts that need to be there, and the ones that I use all the time. Otherwise, the rest are in a separate folder. Font Hit can go to any folder, install a font for you with the click of a button - you can use it w/o having to restart PS, and then uninstall with a click of a button in the same fashion. I do keep them open at the same time if I need to search my fonts if I'm scrapping. If I'm working, I don't bother. But I haven't had a problem with it.

I use the font thing (never had it crash on me or go wonky) and I do the same thing as Darcy I keep it open when scrapping and I can install and uninstall fonts all willie nillie without having to restart PSE.

I use Amp Font Viewer. i could not get Font Hit to install. maybe I will try again.

Darcy brings up a good point though about Amp Font Viewer. I only use it to view and install/uninstall. I don't actually organize with it. I've got fonts all over the place.
