So my kids think Santa is rich

Garrett was looking at the Fisher Price catalog today. I should know better than to let him get the mail.

He saw a Geo-Trax airplane thing that he wants. I looked at the price and told him that he needs to think of other toys also because everything thing on his list is pricey. He then told me that "it doesn't matter how much it is because it is coming from Santa."

How the heck do I respond to that?
 
Mine have used the "Santa makes all the toys doesn't he?"

But I always say, he makes the easier toys, but stuff like Wiis are time consuming to make, so he actually buys those at the stores, so he doesn't take up all of the Elves' time LOL. Mine have always "known" that Santa sometimes shops at stores LOL. So they "get" that it costs money, even for Santa.
 
LMAO mine think the same thing! They both have wish lists a mile and a half long, including pretty much every single thing in the newest American Girl catalog! I keep having to remind them that Santa can't afford to bring them everything they want cause there are billions of kids in the world and Santa doesn't have unlimited funds. I don't think they really get it though!

That is what my kids say too. It doesn't matter how much it costs because Santa makes it.

My son thinks he is can ask for a Wii this year after receiving a Playstation 3 last year. I told him it wasn't going to happen. I think this might be the year he stops believing or that we will break the news to him. He is 9 1/2 and has had a lot of doubt because of schoolmates telling him Santa isn't real.
 
My mom always told us that they had to give Santa money to him to pay the elves for their hard work. LOL! SO that's what I tell Keira.
 
Mine is 8 and still believes in Santa. One time his cousin blatantly told him that Santa is Just Mom and Dad and he was near tears. His Dad told him the cousin is bitter because he didnt receive anything from Santa because he had been a bad boy :)

He has a huge list this Christmas - but the good thing is that it is a manageable list. But he is also making the list for his baby sister who is only 2 and cant write nor even know what she wants! LOL
 
well luckily your son thinks santa is rich because my son thinks his mom is rich...not his dad or his grandparents or anyone else...he thinks i should buy him what he wants when he wants and he's only 3...ok usually i do but he's too young to understand :) i keep telling him he has to ask santa and he says no you have twenty dollar...if only it only cost twent dollar
 
My boy is 8 and he still believes. I want him to believe forever, but I know that's not going to happen. I was around this age when I figured it out, but I'm much better at pretending than my mom was, I thought of things she didn't (like not using the same paper and tags) LOL.

Mine also believe I can email Santa too, if they are bad, so that helps LOL
 
Jamie, i am the same way. Cass is 9 and she still believes although she is getting a lot smarter on the subject ;) we have to be very careful with her now...LOL

mine have both also used the santa makes everything phrase. we always make something up to to tell them. we have started letting them put 10 things on their SANTA list and they can't all be expensive toys. they can give aaron's parents the rest of their list. my side of the family doesn't list shop so we don't worry there. aaron's on the other hand if you don't give a list then you don't get presents. rather stupid but yeah a lot of what they do is pretty out there.

It was using the same paper that tipped my son off! I thought he was buying my story about how Santa uses the same paper as we do. But apparently not. Once he figured out about Santa, he realized that the Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy are not real either. However, I am still telling DD that the Tooth Fairy is real b/c she has not lost her 1st tooth yet.
 
Avery hasn't really gotten to the point of understanding Santa yet...I think this year he might but he hasn't asked for anything. I kind of wish he would b/c I'm totally at a loss this year as to what to get...actually the thought of bringing MORE toys into this house makes me cringe..especially since it's starting to get filled with baby stuff again.
 
I'm not sure whether my kids still believe in Santa or not. They play along, but then sometimes they way stuff that makes me think that they really know the truth (they're 8 and 6).

Anyhow, we tell my kids that they won't get everything on their list. Santa looks at the list and sometimes talks to the parents to see what the kids really need and then decides what he's going to give.

While I "know" that Santa is my mom, I still have to pretend that I don't or I don't get my Santa presents. Santa has his own wrapping paper, and I am 32 years old and my mom will NOT tell me who writes the Santa tags. I swear it is someone at my dad's work, since it's the same handwriting year after year, but she won't tell me. She just laughs and says it's Santa. Bah.
 
Solution: Get divorced.

We never have to worry abt Tyler not getting enough presents. Between my mom, Jeff's parents, Jeff's ex-wife, and Jeff's ex-MIL, T. gets so many presents that he can't even play with them all. Since he is the only grandchild on his mother's side, his maternal Santa does get him some pretty sah-weet gifts.
