Update on JJ!!!!!

I am just going to paste the email I sent out in here since my fingers will fall off if I type it twice. LOL

Okay. First let me just say that I am freaking exhausted. Children's Mercy is laid out weird, and I have never seen so many different doctors in one day in my entire LIFE.

He probably has mild epilepsy. We saw a neurologist, and he wants to look more in depth at his brain scans before he gives me a diagnosis. He looked at them quickly before he talked to me but he said that he wants to look at them more. The way he explained it to me, is that some wires are crossed in his brain that shouldn't be. He said that he's fine, of course, but he doesn't want to put him on heavy medication yet because he's so little. He said there are drugs we can try. So once the blood work, etc comes back, we'll know more.

He had a male nurse drawing his blood.... after dude took the needle out, J kicked him in the junk. Hard. I tried not to laugh.

They gave him some liquid meds that were supposed to make him loopy for the CT scan.. so did not work. They had to tie the poor kid down. Luckily it was short.

So.. after the scan.. they asked me if I knew how to get to ophthalmology. I said yes, but his appt isn't until Thursday. They said no, it's in 10 minutes. What? Okay. So we go to see the eye dr. They dilated his eyes.. that was fun. So then the eye doctor is looking at him and asks me if there is any family history of contacts/glasses. I say yes.. pretty much everyone but Jeff and his sister has a mild astigmatism. She looks at me.. and says.. well.. his is more than slight. So yah, he has a major astigmatism and needs glasses, like now. So guess what I'm doing tonight? SHOOT ME.

Poor lil man! I'm glad it doesn't seem to be too super duper serious, and that he kicked the dude in the junk. I hate needles. :)

I am so glad to hear he is gonna be fine sweety! I can only imagine what you must have been feeling, actually I have been there with lily's jra. Boo on the glasses, I need to get Lily in to the eye doc too. I am dreading it but have a hunch shes gonna need them as well. I had to giggle at JJ kicking the nurse in the junk LOL.

poor kid! glad he's going to pretty much okay. He must not be feeling too bad for having kicked that dude in the junk lol. poor male nurse! lol

I am so happy it appears to be something mild, and nothing severe and that he will be okay... I just had to giggle at the Nurses Junk Kick.. :D
And at least they make super cute kid glasses now... Thats a plus!
Sorry you had such an exhausting day, but glad you at least got some preliminary answers.

it's always nerve racking when our kids are sick - glad to hear they have figured things out! will keep you guys in my thoughts and prayers, oh and also the nurse who got kicked in his junk LOL.....

I'm glad the scan was short! I can't imagine seeing one of mine tied down for something like that! I'm glad you got some answers, though! And they do make super cute glasses for kids! lol, 2 of my nephews have had them since they were 3, and they're just so adorable!! You'll have to post pics when he gets his!

Im glad everything went ok.. LOL about him kicking him in the junk. Too funny. Have fun shopping for glasses.

Awww hugs honey!!! So sorry you and your little man were put through the wringer today!!! I'm at least glad you are on the right track to a diagnosis and will continue to keep you both (and your whole family) in my thoughts!!! Keep us posted!!!!

Poor little guy. My 6 y.o. son had blood drawn recently and they had to have 3 nurses and my DH hold him down. He kept yelling "NO!!! I'M NOT READY!!!!" of course, he never would have been ready, but it was just heartbreaking to watch.

I must have missed the original post, but I'm glad to hear that you have some answers, Sara, and the doctors are able to help you get JJ fixed up with some killer shades. :)

Poor little guy and poor mama! My DH has a seizure disorder, so if you have any ?s or just want to talk, you know where to find me. Lots of ((hugs)).

Well, WTG JJ, that is too funny!!! I am glad this all seems pretty mild and he is doing well Sara. Keep us in the loop, prayers & hugs to you both.

Poor JJ! I don't blame him for kicking the guy in the junk! (Of course I spit my water everywhere when I read that part!) I'm also glad to hear that it's not too serious and that he can be controlled with meds. And I think little kids in glasses are the CUTEST so I can't wait for photos. Hugs to you and JJ Sara for having such a tough day!

Thanks for the update! Glad to hear that they think it is mild anyways. I'm sure this has all been so scary for you and your family!
LOL, about him kicking!!!!! Too funny!

poor little dude...but glad you at least have a somewhat diagnosis...and I can relate to that dilating thing, I just had that doen a couple of weeks ago and is SUCKED!!!!

Aw, hon..sounds like a taxing day. It's enouraging to hear the doctor is a bit optimistic that it isn't too serious.

I had to chuckle at JJ kicking the nurse in the junk, lol! GL with the glasses too sweetie!!

omg, I'm totally laughing at the part where he kicked the guy in the junk! lol!

Hope his treatment is simple and very successful!

I'm so glad you've some answers, Sara and so glad that it's nothing too bad. Though I'm still wondering how you'll keep glasses on such a "quiet" little fella, lol. Don't blame him for the kick, lol. Absolutely hate having blood drawn
Hope you can relax a bit now, sweets.

I'm so glad you updated! *hugs*

I'm glad to hear that your little guy is okay and that they're getting him all checked out and fixed up. I've heard that Children's Mercy is a mess but at least you got it all in one stop, right? ;)

Sarah

What a day! If you need any info on meds or docs in your area, feel free to pm me - I work in neuroscience and have colleagues who specialize in epilepsy who would be happy to help.

I'm so glad to hear that you're on the path to a diagnosis and that things look relatively mild. Waiting for answers is so hard!

It sounds like way too much of an ordeal - glad you survived this round! Sounds like he has plenty of fight in him still and thats a great thing!! What a terrible day for you both all the same {{{hugs}}}!

Awww, poor lil' guy! At least you know now though. I have a feeling my little boy is gonna need glasses too. I have seen some really cute kiddo glasses out there though! <<<<HUGS>>>>
