Gallery Comments Question

OK so the gallery game had me looking at layouts and commenting and got me thinking?

What is the most comments you have ever had on a layout? I went thru my whole gallery and the most comments I got on a layout is 10. Pitiful. It makes me think my pages aren't that good.

I also look at the views and I see I have one layout with 151 views and one comment! Which leads me to my next question. What makes you open up a layout to view it and not comment? Is it so bad you can't find anything nice to say about it? I have to say that if I am going to spend the time opening a layout beyond thumbnail size, even if it's not what I expected I try to find something positive to say about it.

I'm probably going to regret asking these questions and I mean no harm or to start any trouble, I'm just curious.
 
99.99% of the time, if I open it, I comment. Cuz I know how much it sucks to see a billion views and 2 comments.
 
I don't view a page without commenting. I don't have many pages with over 10 comments. It depends on if I put it out there in the Sweet Lovin's thread or for a Gallery Game. But I have plenty with less than 10.

I love to spend time in the Gallery. I haven't in the past 2 days... Probably from the "high" of being picked for Penny's team, I've been stalking her forum and all! LOL
 
I think the most comments I've gotten on a LO is maybe like 20-25??? But it makes me crazy when I see like 80 views and 5 comments...If I actually click on someones LO I leave a comment!

And ditto...no drama intended!

and ps I like your LO's and I think I may have left you the longest one word comment ever ;)
 
i'm all for more gallery love!! spread the love, my fine friends!

a few reasons i think there are a billion views and no comments:

1. people are just curious and have no desire to type/say anything. they are just window shoppers.

2. people get caught up in the gallery and just honestly...forget to comment.

3. people get intimidated by what to say...it's already been said, they don't know you etc.

we've talked about this before, but i have layouts with 3 or 4 comments and i thought they would get more. others i have 15 comments on and they are a'ight. you never know...lol!
 
also it may be people looking in the gallery that aren't registered.. if they aren't registered they can't leave a comment, and remember some views can also be Meg checking your challenge layouts for new product!! :)
 
I think maybe 13 or 14. It doesn't bother me that there are gobs more views than comments. Sara's got a point about viewers that aren't registered looking through the galleries.
 
Just went and looked... every single one of my LO's has TONS more views than comments. I just ignore the view number anymore. Also remember that if you click on your LO to read comments, that's a view. So those views can add up fast.
 
You know - I've never been one to mind if a layout of mine had a bunch of views and no comments. At least it stood out enough to be viewed LOL.

Thank you all for responding, I totally didn't think of any of Sara's points she made.

I so appreciate the comments I get and was not intending to sound as if I didn't. I just see layouts with 30 comments and then I get one comment or 0 comments on a layout I thought was pretty good. KWIM?
 
Another thing is that if you go to your own LO a few times, that also boosts the view count.
 
You know too sometimes I will open a layout and then mean to comment and lose track. I will get swept up or forget, cause I have a ton of tabs open. I can't count how many times the kids alone pull me off the computer. I am generally up and down all day. I do agree though that if I open I more times then not comment as well.
 
You know, I never even notice the view counts. I did however just go look at my gallery here and either we have a TON of people who view but don't comment or the view counts here are somehow off. I have way more views here than I do anywhere else, like I'm talking 50 views vs 300 views? on the same layout?. I don't that just doesn't seem all that likely to me. :D

I'll be honest and say that I sometimes view and don't comment. I don't really do that here but in some of the bigger galleries I like to have times where I can just browse for inspiration rather than feeling like I must leave praise if I open the layout. It's nothing personal, it's just a choice I've made to take some of the pressure off myself. But I do leave a lot of comments during the times when I am in praise mode so I figure it balances out.
 
I think somewhere around 15. Typically at DST I get 0-1 comments LOL. Here, I usually get 5 or more, which is NICE. I get more when I play the praise game, but really, I would rather 5 comments because people liked my LO enough to comment on it, rather than 10 comments because people had to comment, kwim?

Honestly though, I love comments, but I'm not horribly good at reciprocating sometimes, so I don't expect to get a lot.
 
I try to comment on a layout if I opened it, but sometimes things get in the way, like my baby falls over, she wants to eat, I have to stop the pasta from boiling over, lol, and I don't have a chance to. I just run. Then DH uses the computer and closes my window. That sucks. Other times, I'm just lazy. I really do try to comment if I looked at it though.

I think the most comments I've gotten here is about 10. And I was thrilled! I love even getting 1 or 2. I'm sad when I get none. But I know too that sometimes my LO's just get buried under the others that are uploaded on a daily basis, so some have very few views too.

I've noticed that if I upload at night, those LO's get virtually no views or comments. If I upload in the morning I get a few more, but if I upload in the afternoon when more people are browsing the gallery, I get a few more.
 
At dst, I often only get 3 views tops on most layouts. lol, not that I mind, but it makes me feel nice when I see 30 views here. I'm glad people want to click on my thumbnail to view it bigger. I do know I view my own a lot, lol, looking for mistakes,or to look through the credits to see what I used if I know I want to use it again. Also, I assumed the Sugar Babes who run the challenges look through the challenge layouts(my challenge layouts always have more views).
I know I view the gallery a LOT when I'm looking for a way to use something. Like if I'm working on a layout with a certain kit, I'll want to use an element, but not sure how it will look, I'll search for los with that kit, and just view them all real quick to get an idea of how it looks, kwim? And even when I'm browsing like that, sometimes a layout will really grab me and I'll comment, but sometimes I'm in a rush.
So, I don't mind how many comments I have compared to views. I like knowing even the thumbnail grabbed someone's attention and made them want to view it full size, maybe my layout made someone smile.

Oh, my most commented lo is like 21!! LOL, I was surprised, but it's kind of a different lo, so I can kinda understand. But most of mine have like anywhere from 3-10. A few also have 1. :)
 
I rarely get 10 or more comments, most of the time I don't get any, but plenty of views. 5 is a good day for me.
 
I have a few LOs with 20 comments. Most of my recent LOs are in the teens (some lower). I usually get way more comments on DST. I just checked out my stats, I have over 11,000 views with 784 comments and 87 LOs ... so I average 9 comments per LO and 127 views here at SSD.

With respect to the views, many people save LOs to their favorites and go back to them when they are looking to get inspiration from them. So one person could potentially look at a LO several times (driving up the view count). I only open up LOs when I plan to leave a comment ... also if you pull up your LO to view the comments posted, it drives the views up too.

haha I hardly get any comments on my LOs but when I look through the gallery and someone has lots of love I go look for LOs that don't have any or much love and try to spread some there. I don't have time to comment a lot so when I do I like to give it to LOs that need it.
 
I have alot of layouts with no veiws (not here but at DST) and I have alot with a ton of veiws and no comments. I dont honestly care anymore. Ill play the praise game occasionally and while its nice to get comments the ones that mean the most to me come from those I care about and who I am doing the layouts for. Like my daughter had a report last year and she had to do a small essay on every letter of the alphabet and for "M" she chose Mom. In it she talked about how I document all our memories through scrapbooking and how good I am even if I dont always see it and how she thinks I could/should do it for a living. She tells alot of her friends about it and posts the layouts I make for her on her myspace to share with her friends. That is the best praise I think I could ever receive!! Oh and the most I have ever received on one layout is maybe 15-20 I think??
 
I second Lizzy's thoughts on the why-open-and-not-comment crowd. I accept that as part of the way gallery browsing goes, so it doesn't bother me. But I personally do comment on every layout I open. Because if I click on it, it's because something struck me to take a closer look and I'm a fan of saying what exactly that is. :)

I'm trying to find more time to comment here because I love to browse and leave sugar.
 
I know what you mean Pam, it can feel discouraging sometimes to see so many look-sees and few or no comments. The most I've ever gotten on a LO is 11 but it is rare. I just figure its because I'm not that good, lol, but thats ok too! And if I open one up I always always comment.

Yeah, I've noticed that. I almost always upload at night because that's when I scrap. Then to get praise on those LOs, I have to FORCE ppl to look at it and play the praise game... but the LOs with lots of comments are usually from when we play our fun gallery games. :wub:

My LOs get far more views than comments, but I've never received so many sweet comments than in this gallery. People take the time here to leave GOOD comments... not lame drive-by comments like "Cute." "Great LO." Man, those comments make me crazy! lol I don't know why, but they do... but I don't get them here! Everyone is very sweet adn they MEAN IT! :thumbup:

Hybrids seems to always get fewer comments than LOs... but that's okay. I get more comments on them here than at the big open galleries.
 
I try to comment on all that I open. The only time that I might not is when it is Saturday night and I am trying to decide between 2 kits and I am looking at LOs made with each to help me make my decision. It is usually late and I don't want the price to change on me! But, otherwise, I try to comment.
 
Could be worse... you could upload and have hardly any views and no comments (not that I know anything about that)! LOL!

Don't worry... it's about what YOU think about the layout anyway right?
 
If I open it, I leave a comment. I have many LOs in my gallery that have 1, usually my DD, & I have quite a few with no comments. Lots of views, but no comments. I figure it's because there are others out there that do a whole lot better with LOs than I do. I've gotten to where I don't bother looking at my gallery unless I am uploading. It's like DD says, "Your doing it for you, comments aren't that important." :D She can say that though, she doesn't have a LO in her gallery that has less than 4 comments. She does beautiful work. She obviously didn't get her talent from me. :glare:
