If you design 12x12 and print 8x8, come in...

I know that this has been discussed before, but I never really paid attention. :p

Do you design in 12x12, save 12x12, print 8x8?

Or do you design in 12x12, save AND print in 8x8?

I'm wondering why I'm saving all of my stuff 12x12 when I print 8x8? Seems like a lot of wasted disk space...

I save 12x12 and have printed a few at 8x8 but only because I printed them at home. I do intend to print alot of my layouts eventually at 12x12.

I design and save at 12x12 because that way, if I ever decide to print it 12x12, I won't have to worry about losing quality going up. That's just me, though. :)

I design, save and print 8x8... I just find it works best for me. Plus, it gives you more room to play with the size of elements in kits.

I design 12x12, save 12x12 and print 8x8. There is very little file size difference between my 12x12 jpgs and my 8x8 jpgs, so I just keep saving 12x12 in case I ever want to print that size.

I do the same thing. I just find it much easier. Plus Photoshop runs much better when the sizes are smaller. The last layout I did had to be 12x12 and I definitely noticed a difference - and this is with my computer having 4GB of RAM.

Ditto! I do print some 12x12 of my favorites for my personal scrapbook (kinda like a coffee table book) but layouts for my boys and the family scrapbook are 8x8.

I have OCD and pretty big hard drive...however I don't have a great computer, it's slow. So in order for things to run smoothly I scrap at 12x12 @ 200dpi. Tell me if I am mental or not, for each page I save:

12x12 PSD
12x12 JPG
8x8 JPG - for print
600 px, optimized for SSD (145-150kb)
I then resize that to 500px and save for sharing in family emails & forums.

I realize that as my # of LO's grow I am gonna have to stop doing this, but for now it makes me feel better knowing I have it all there ready to go.

I'm another one who designs in 12x12, then save and print 8x8. I print 8x8 because it's easier to find photo paper (I use 8 1/2 x 11) and I don't have enough money to buy a printer that does 12x12 nor print all my LOs in that format via an outside company.
Besides there are some really cute 8x8 albums out there...

I scrap in 12x12, save in 12x12 and print in 8x8. I guess I never thought about the wasted space issue before. I guess it really doesn't affect me too much. I print my LOs at scrapbookpictures.com, and once they're printed, I move the files off my HD, so they really don't take up that extra space for too long. I print pretty regularly, so that helps. They're having a sale now, so I'll be printing again in the next couple of days.

I guess if you rarely print, that extra space would add up quickly.

I scrap in 12x12, save in 12x12, and print in 12x12. I have hundreds of paper scrapped layouts already in 12x12 so I really have no choice but to continue with that size...unless I'm doing a mini book or something.

I scrap in 12x12, save in 12x12, and print in 8x8... not sure why. I guess i am afraid that one day I will want to do a big book of my faves and won't have the right sizes. I dunno. I am considering not saving in jpg until I am redy to print 9and then deleting them after) so that I only have PSD files saved, thus saving some room on my hard drive (which is new and big but already getting overcrowded lol darn you SSD, I can't resist you! lol)

I scrap 12x12, save 12x12 and print 8x8. I printed one book in 12x12 and I HATED it! So now that I know I'll never do that, I should really just start downsizing each layout as I go, and then I won't have a big lot of stuff to do when it is printing time. The 12x12 book was enormous and awkward. The layouts looked funny and the photos were huge. I found the 8x8 perspective is about the same as looking at a 600x600 in the gallery, but the perspective in a 12x12 book just looks odd. I don't know if I'm explaining myself well, it's hard to explain.

I don't scrap in 8x8 because I wouldn't like having to size down every alpha and element...it would be tedious and more time consuming than necessary in my opinion.

i scrap 12x12, save 12x12... print some 12x12 & some 8x8. depends on the subject matter and if i feel like spending $1.50 or $3.00 on printing the layout! :) I am so cheap!

I have a client who wants 8x8 books, scrapped at 8x8 so that her photos are the focus of the layouts.

I scrap 12x12, save 12x12 and print at 8x8. I never want to take away the option that I might not want to print something larger at some point. I have the space, so I'm not too worried. But I know I'd hate it if I wanted to do a bigger version of a layout to frame, and couldn't because I kept at 8x8.

I meant to add - be sure to save your layered layouts in .tiff (choose zip and lzw) instead of .psd files. You'll save a ton of room with no loss in quality at all.

I scrap 12x12, save 12x12, then print 8x8. I want to have the flexibility to print 12x12 someday if I chose to.

I design in 12 x 12 only b/c I'm too lazy to resize everything as I go. But I resize to 8x8 and print 8x8. I also do not save my layered files. I used to but I never went back to them and they took up so much space.

ditto. and I just save my PSD file. I don't save any jpgs until I'm ready to print. Which may not be the smartest approach b/c I'm never ready to print.

I design 12 x 12, save 12 x 12 and had thought that I would print at 12 x 12. I just got my first photobook in the mail from Shutterfly. It was an 8 x 8 book that I got for free so I used it as a test. I didn't think that I would like the 8 x 8 size, but it turned out really great, so I think that I will be printing 8 x 8 from now on.

I use Paint Shop Pro so I save my layered layouts in the PSP format, but they are huge. So once I know absolutely I will never want to change that layout I will save at 12x12 jpg and delete the PSP version. I usually print at 8x8 but I also want the option to be able to print at 12x12 someday. The TIFF format is not an option for me in that PSP doesn't allow for layers.
