Yay! Now for some chocolate cake! rofl!

Seriously though..I think they need to rethink how they do the 1 hour GTT test and start telling women to fast before hand. I truly believe that my eating a light breakfast before that blood draw made me fail it the first time. I'm sure going to be advising any of my preggo friends in the future to eat nothing before the 1 hr test even if their doc says it's okay...there's just too many of us on this board alone that have failed the first and passed the second kwim? and that second test is a big ole pain in the butt!

Oh yea, eating beforehand will change the results.

Glad you passed!!

Yipee! :D

And I agree, the standards on the first test are totally random according to your doctor. It just doesn't make any sense to me.

Woohoo! I think the problem is the diff practices by diff doctors. My bf and I were pregnant and due on the same day this past time...and her dr. told her to eat, and just did a finger prick. My doctor told me to fast, and did a full blood draw...it's like there is no 'across the board' rule.

I had people repeatedly ask me if I had GD around Parker's delivery since he was so big, but nope!

You must be so relieved!

You know I think some docs do the 3 hour different too b/c my sister had to take the 3 hour with her 2nd pregnancy and after her first blood draw and drinking the stuff they sent her to the cafeteria to eat a normal breakfast. So there just must not be a standard for this test which really isn't fair to us lol

What a relief that you passed! I agree that there should be a standard-across-the-board test... its so confusing!

Glad you passed! that must be a huge weight off your mind.

I've never taken any of these tests b/c I was already diabetic but I was thinking maybe the docs are looking for diff numbers depending on if you ate or not?

I had my 1 hour yesterday and my OB told me there is serious talk about doing away with the test. She said the cost/information ratio is terrible and there are so many false positives that have to go on for the 3 hour test and then turn out negative, that they feel they just aren't gaining the info they need from it. She said OBs are much better off observing their patients for certain signs and symptoms that tell you a patient is diabetic and are more definitive. Hopefully by baby #3 they won't have me do it anymore! LOL

YAY!! I'm glad you passed Nikki!! That's awesome!!

And ya know, all the research I've done on this topic...it is a very highly criticized test because there are so many variations on how doctor's do it.

YAY...

as a lab tech there is a difference in the GGT testing...they do a 1 hr where you drink the glucola and then have your blood drawn exactly an hour after you finish....then they have the 3 hr GGT where you have your initial blood drawn {this is your fasting glucose} then you drink the glucola and then have your blood drawn every hour x3...the one your sister had done is what they call a post prandial GGT where they go and have you eat and then check your glucose level 2 hours later....I have never actually heard of anyone doing this one on a pregnant woman, so I think it is kinda odd your sister had that done...but I am not a doctor, just a lab tech! and we actually tell our patients not to eat reoughly 2 hours before their test and this seems to give us better results than if people have breakfast and eat as usual...I can totally relate with the 1st one being high and then passing the 3 hr {happened to me twice!}...so just thought I would try to explain a little bit from the lab technician side of it....

Yay! So glad you passed. And I'll have to try the no breakfast thing for my 1-hr. test. (I think I have to take it after my next appointment.) For both of my other pregnancies I failed the 1-hr. and passed the 3-hr. But I hate taking that stupid 3-hr. test, so I'm hoping to pass the 1-hr. this time.

I'm glad you passed! I was told to eat protein only (things like eggs and cheese, but no carbs) beforehand. I definitely think eating carbs would throw the results off.

I failed my first and passed the second with my middle child and when he was born the doctor and nurses said they think that I was in fact diabetic but it just was not detected.

YAY!

And I totally agree with you that they should be more specific about what you should and should not do before the 1 hour. My doc said to just be normal... well normal for me was a cup of decaf coffee or tea and that can really screw your results! UGH!

The one time I failed my 1 hour, I'd stopped at 7-11 for a doughnut on the way.
