My 3 year old ds has really chapped lips right now....does anyone know any miracle cure for it LOL? I try putting chapstick on his lips, but he just wipes it right off. I'm not sure what the heck to do......any suggestions?

can you try vaseline? He'd probably just wipe that off too though, huh? Um. I got nothing, Cindy, sorry.

Get a medicated type of chapstick such as Blistex of Carmex and slab it on at night while he is sleeping. If they are chapped and red beyond the lips (my kids end up looking like clowns sometimes) then put some Neosporin above and below the lips at night (again, while he is sleeping if he tends to wipe it off.) I have a couple of cronic lip lickers and this is what works for me.

Yeah I'd probably try doing it at night too. DS gets a terrible heat rash behind his knees all the time and I have to wait til he's sleeping to put a little beaudreax's butt cream on it to clear it up or he just wipes it off during the day lol

I find Carmex works best... and yes, I would put lots on while he's sleeping and try to keep him from licking his lips during the day. Poor guy, hope you can get it under control soon.

ive always used just plain old vaseline. also try to keep them from licking their lips. it becomes a habit and is one of the reasons for chapped lips. it dries them out very badly. I know it would be hard for a three year old but it will keep them from chapping as badly if you can get him to stop. when my lips get dry though vaseline works almost instantly so even if he wipes it off there will still be some left behind to help keep the barrier between the wind/cold/sun...whatever is drying it out.

i second or fifth the gobs of chapstick at night. i would also try a chapstick during the day, even if he does wipe it off. maybe try going out to let him buy his own and applying it himself. that way it's his idea and he might leave it on a little better.

That's a good idea! Let him choose the lip balm.

We have had really good luck with Aquaphor too. It works fast. And I agree with putting it on at night too.

thanks for all your help everyone.....
I'm totally laughing though because I know if I try to even get close to his mouth while he is sleeping, it will wake him up....that's the last thing I want to do!!:D I guess I will have to try it anyways!!

Josh has had seriously chapped lips since he was little. The doc gave us a lotion to use I think it was Lucerin? or something like that. It's very heavy and you just rub it in. It works awesome.

Aww my niece does the SAME thing...and she looks like a clown before it is all said and done...I gave my sis the carmax, neosporin advice...I have also heard good things about Aquaphor...I bought her some of this last week...

Dh got me some Neosporin Lip Treatment. omg, I loooooove it. My lips are literally always chapped, it never goes away. After he brought that stuff home, they've greatly improved!! I'm using it every day now to keep them nice(they were always peeling, cracking, bleeding-not pretty). But it's not in a roll up thingy like regular chapstick, and it goes on super easy-it's not real thick, it's in one of those squeeze tubes-maybe you could get that on without waking him at night?

Do I have a really weird child then because mine loves having lipbalm on. My biggest problem is that he usually end up taking a chunk out of it when I do it, unsure if he likes the taste or it's just an accident because he is king fidget pants lol. Hugs Crystal xx

maybe you could gob it (the balm of your choice) onto your own lips and then give him a big kiss goodnight

My son's lips get really bad during this cold season too. Aubrey's never really get bad though. And my only solution was putting stuff on at night!

I have really bad dry lips and swear by Aquaphor. I learned about it in the NICU when they used it on my son. I started using it for myself and was amazed at how well it works. It doesnt feel greasy like Vaseline and isnt stinky like Carmex.

I would stay away from using the medicated chapstick, as a user myself, I know its pretty addicting. Though the vasoline at night trick seems like a good one.
