Naomi's hybrid birthday cake

So it didn't turn out quite like I had hoped, but overall I'm pleased with it. It is an edible transfer on a regular store bought cake. The colors were a little washed out (if I ever do this in the future I won't use a red background for sure).

I used Fee's Hip Hooray :)

This came out wonderfully! I had never thought of doing something like this before....Thank you for the idea....:wub:
 
It's adorable!!! I looked at Michael's in the cake/candy section for some edible transfer paper but didn't find any... where did you get yours? or did the store do the transfer for you?
 
Kroger bakery did it for $5...you better believe if I had done it, the red would have been more vivid because I would've been sure to have a fresh ink cartridge :) (though, it's my first experience...maybe the transfer itself is what dulls it)
 
Thanks for telling me the bakery did it. I just spent the last 10 minutes searching for edible cake transfer paper. I learned that you have to use special food dye. :)

yeah, the food dye could have been the difference in the color too. I think I wouldn't have noticed a difference at all if I hadn't chosen red. Just something to learn from! You can't really tell from the pic the true color of it. I was having trouble getting it to really show up well.
 
That is so awesome! I think Blake's birthday cake dilemma might be solved if I can find a bakery who will do this for me! :) (We don't have a Kroger's.)
