Nervous, planning my first kids' birthday party ever! Looking for inspiration...

This might be sort of silly, but I am for the first time planning a birthday party for my soon-to-be 5 year old. We have only had small family celebrations before, because her birthday is a week before Thanksgiving and when we lived in Michigan we always traveled to come here.

The reason that I'm nervous is I just don't want her to be disappointed. :o She is VERY into parties right now, and is actually playing "birthday party" for her horse webkinz, and making costumes for all her stuffed animals. :D So I guess I need reassurance that whatever happens, that she will enjoy it?

She decided on a "Fairytale" theme... she is ahem very into princesses right now, but because she is friends with a lot of little boys she recognized she needed to broaden the appeal. :o So we're doing princesses & princes, dragons, fairy-tale themes, etc. She also wants a treasure hunt, a pinata, and games like fishing for prizes in a barrel.

Sooo.... if anyone has any ideas for cheap/fun/easy Fairytale related games or decorations, please share! :) We're having it at home, and are expecting family and probably 4-8 children of different ages, 1-6 yo. Oh that's my other fear, that no one will come. Though that's probably unfounded, 3 families have already said they will come.

Also, if anyone has scrapped pages about birthday parties with a princess or fairytale theme, I'd love to see them! Oh, and while we're at it, feel free to enable me with kits along those themes, I'd like to scrap a "save the date" invitation to send out in a few days, and then a paper invitation in a week or so. (The party will be 11/15.)

Thanks!

I don't know that I would do two invites...just one should be fine! I think it's normal to be worried no one will show. Wait till you have to invite the whole class and be worried EVERYONE will show, LOL!

Anyway, at the party supply store recently I saw big cardboard cutouts of like castles and such. I don't remember the cost exactly because I wasn't in the market but I think they were about $15. They were like "scenery" for your party.

Instead of doing gift bags, you could all do a craft together that the kids could then take home.

You could use crepe paper and cardboard to make cardboard cone princess hats, or little crowns for the fellas.

Family Fun is my favorite website for resources :)
