This name isn't set in stone yet but it's what we've narrowed it down to. I got to thinking of how this is going to be my only daughter and how I've always not been so crazy about my "trendy" name and how I always wanted something classically southern. So I started going through our famiy trees looking for more elegant classic names and this is what we've both decided we like....

Augusta Katherine

I just stumbled across Augusta in our family 2-3 times and found it really beautiful and Katherine is from DH's family. More than likely we will call her Kate or Katie which would go with our crazy family's habit of using middle names instead of first names lol...

I'm Angela Nicole and my parents decided to call me Nikki
DH is Charles Brian and he goes by Brian
DS is Brian Avery and goes by Avery
so this one would be odd if we didn't use her middle name lol...I'm totally kidding I just think it's funny that we both had to go through life correcting people on what name we go by and now we may do it to both our kiddos :D

So WDYT? Don't be too harsh with me about Augusta b/c right now I'm really loving it and it's the first name I have really loved lol...BTW if this is the name we decide on no one in our family will know until she's born lol

So glad you found a name that you both like and that reflects your family so well!

My family has a tradition of using being called by the middle name too. :)

fits perfectly with the story you told including calling her Kate or Katie!! I don't think either family will be surprised with your logic LOL...

I really like it as a classic, formal name. I don't think I'd want it as my name for daily use, but it looks like you've got a plan for her day-to-day name. It is kinda fun to have the option, though. You never know what is going to appeal to a kid when they get older!

It's great that you've found a name that you both like! I've never met an Augusta, but I know several August's and they are beautiful, happy life-of-the party kind of people. Two of the most important women in my life are Catherine/Katherines and I don't know what I would do without them. Strong, but tender hearted, brave and willing to go for what they want.
I can't help but associate names to personalities I've known. This sounds like a great combination to me! (and it's flexible too... if she wanted to go by August, or Kate or Kat or whatever she could!)

Thanks everyone...I'm feeling good about it..like it fits...so that's good

While I do love Katie, I'd also think it is pretty to call her Augusta...I think that's gorgeous

I keep thinking this in the back of my head too...but I guess we'll just wait until we see her and see what fits kwim? DH wants to call her Augusta so we'll just see :)

I think it's beautiful...classic, elegant, and definitely southern. And there are lots of options with it when she's older...if she wants formal, great, if not, she can go with Kate or Katie, etc. Great name!

I thinks is very pretty, Nikki. Great choice. I wish we had better names in our family. I'm not exactly going to name a child Mervlyn. Yes, Mervlyn. Hideous, huh?

I love your choice....It has a nice "Southern ring" to it....I also think it is unique how both you and your husband grew up being called by your middle names....So it is only fitting that you would do the same for your children....

I LOVE it! ALOT! I am really into more classic, quirky, uncommon names so Augusta fits the bill perfectly! katherine is timeless and elegant and Kate/katie is a sweet NN (though with a name like Augusta I'd prefer to see a cool, offbeat nn like Aggie, Gussie, or just Augusta)! I seriously love this name though Nikki! I hope this is "the one"!

I think it's a very pretty name. It sounds very southern and elegant. She'll have so many nickname possibilities when she gets to that stage where she wants to change her name. Lucky girl!

Beautiful name Nikki! I love Augusta!

I did something similar with my daughter only for her middle name. My mamaw and many of them women in our family from wayyyy back had the name Jefferson as their middle names. So I named my daughter Savannah Jefferson. My oldest sis calls her Jeffie though (something my papaw would call my mamaw which mamaw hated lol). Now I did catch a lot of flack from everyone saying poor girl has such a long name (our last name has 10 letters in it lol).

I actually love it. And I broke my own cardinal rule when naming my daughter - I vowed my kids would have names that were easy to pronounce and spell (Because seriously, no one gets Lucrecia right!). I have Justin, Colton then Caleigh Savannah (pronounced Callie but EVERYONE reads it Kaylee). I say go for it!

Oh wow that is beautiful Nikki! I love names like that. And I love that you all go by your middle names...what a neat thing! I think she will be happy growing up with those names!

Very nice - I actually went to high school with an Augusta - she was really cool, nice and athletic. She did go by her first name.

its nice...my nieces names are Rebekah, Anastasia and Rhiannon so I like unusual/different names. My kids names are Crystal, Matthew and Nickolas(all kinda ordinary but they all seemed to fit when they were born). Although Nickolas goes by Tyler usually which is his middle name. I went through a ton of names. I really liked the names Dakota and Conway but my hubby said no to both LOL
