I'm sure it's not the same thing every time, but for the most part, what are you most influenced by? Color theme, overall theme, elements, photos you already have, etc ....

For me it's the elements. Occasionally I buy a kit based on theme, if I have something specific in mind, but usually it's because I like the cool elements or the colors. I love kits with lots of unique elements.

There's no telling. Likely to be a bird that farted on it's way over my house and the odor wafted in and made me strike.

LMFAO!!! Omg Angie! Hahahahahhaha!

Ummm, I don't know if I can narrow it down to just one thing, lol.
I'm always drawn to certain colors. And any sort of tropical theme makes me drool. Fun/interesting elements help too.

I have based my purchases on the elements of a kit, but I will admit that I mainly look at the Layouts submitted by the Creative Teams and that is a huge factor in deciding which kits I buy....

So, guess that means keep those layouts coming with the Sneak Peeks....LOL

It's all about the color palette for me. It almost doesn't matter what the colors are, as long as they all work well together, then I am basically sold, lol. SSD does such great job at that so I love most of the kits, hehehe. Also tend to gravitate more toward the girly stuff since I have a little girl.

The big thing for me is price; 3/4 of the stuff I buy is so ridiculously on sale {mostly for a buck} that I can't say no. Now that being said, I don't know that I think it makes good business sense to put something on sale for a dollar. At the stores that do it, when new stuff comes out, I always think, "oh well, someday it will be a dollar; i can wait."

The other big thing for me is color scheme. It doesn't matter how cool the papers or elements are, if they are in colors I don't use, I won't buy it.

Then I look at the papers; one of the many reasons I love Lauren so much. Her papers are so unique and awesome.

BUT I ALSO THINK that I buy based on designer, too. Once I saw a kit that looked nice, but I easily talked myself out of it, and then I wondered, "If {insert favorite designer} had designered this, would I have bought it?" And generally, the answer would be yes. So I think I tend to buy stuff by my favorite designers just out of habit.

usually it's style... I'm usually into the trendy kits... I am definitely a trend scrapper, lol.

98% of the time it's elements. Regardless if I have pics or not!!! Sometimes a great color scheme will make me purchase.

All of the above :) I do check out CT pages and then I look at elements. But like Kellie said, I'm a sucker for a sale. I love those dollar deals. Of course if we had them here, I'd still be BROKE!

it's usually the alpha that gets me to put a kit into my cart.
or good word art.

and my mood at the time.

and if I can get someone to talk me into it :D, just a little nudge.

Angie you are so lucky I didn't have any liquids in my mouth. LOL

Most of the time if I buy a kit, it has to have a bunch of elements, and usually girly colors help because I have two girls. A big plus would be a cool alpha with it.

But with that said I don't buy many kits. I'm more of a seperate alpha elements kind of girl. I have so many papers that I don't use already.

I think definitely elements, and color scheme is a close second.

Honestly? Preview.
If the preview is killer I will pounce on that thing hardcore!
If the preview sucks, meh.

Omg the preview is HUGE! There are people I won't even consider buying from because their previews are AWFUL!

Adding to mine, papers. I'm a sucker for good papers.

also... stuff that I really use, like effed up stitching and frames... and glitter... I'm a serious sucker for glitter.

doodles, too... which is why I bow down to the Alter of La... I luvs me some doodles.

but... trendy... trendy is my biggest weakness.

Lots and lots and LOTS of elements... awesome elements! I loooooooooooove my elements! :D And of course, awesome color combos. I'm a sucker for the brown/pink/blue/orange combo... and fresh and funky combos... bright colors! I don't buy a whole lot of kits with dark color schemes. I love things to be bright and happy! I also love some awesome patterned papers... and papers need texture.

But mostly elements... particularly flowers and bows and strings.

I don't think I could narrow it down and say exactly! Every kit is different. I love Kristin's kits because they've got a softness to them-not sure if it's her textured papers, or the colors or the fact that I get a lot of flowers out of her kits!! :D Kay's kits too. Super girlygirl, I looove. But I've started lately liking the grungy style also, and the doodles, and the funky. It's different things for different kits. I agree with Mandy too about the preview-definitely makes a difference how the kit is presented. CT layouts have been known to sway me one way or the other also.

I have my favorite designers outside the ones I CT for...Kasia being one-I buy everything she designs...and you know what I have only scrapped with one or two kits, but my Kasia folder is jam packed.

Papers are huge for me, if the papers are bright, bold and just plain fun, I am hooked.
A good button will make me buy an entire kit too...as you may or may not know, I'm crazy about buttons.

Colors and papers for sure. I'm all about papers with unique prints. Previews are important too. I really hate when you can't see the papers in a preview.

I have to be able to use it for my girls and my boys!!! Rarely do I buy a kit that is ONLY girls or ONLY boys!!! I'll buy a MOSTLY girl kit or a MOSTLY boy kit but I have to be able to get at least one LO for the opposite sex out of it for me to buy it!!

The only exception is an "on sale" element pack....if I can get one for a buck or two then I'll buy a ONLY girl or ONLY boy element pack!!!

Honestly, the LOs from the CTs are usually what convince me. I can see a preview and love it but unless i see some awesome LOs with the kit I generally talk myself out of the kit. A close second to that is elements. As much as I love cool papers just to look at (or set as my desktop wallpaper lol) I am terrible with papers so its the elements that hook me because they are what i use most often. Frame in particular suck me in. For example, Traci Reed's "Stealing Prince Charming". The whole kit is awesome and so versitile but what I immediately noticed was the white, wooden frame. I saw that frame and said to myself, "I MUST have this kit!" lol.

Also, I tend to have a preferred style. I like the kits with embellies that look "real" If a kit is mostly doodled or "sticker" type elements I typically pass even if it is super cute because they just don't work with my LO style (in most cases). The exception to that would be Kay Miller. I LOVE everything she does even though her kits are usually mostly cool papers and neat drawings and such which goes totally against my usual style its just that her stuff is irresistible! lol

Oh, and felt! I am a sucker for felt because i can;t tough it IRL I ahve weird texture issues and touching felt, cotton balls, yarn, q-tips, etc makes me sick to my stomach and give me the shivers so I love working with felt digitally! I think this contributes to my obsession with Dani Mogstad's stuff! lol

Since I only have boys to scrap, a superfrilly rainbowed pink unicorn kit will do me no good and, hence, is not purchased. Since I used to have stepdaughters, I had NO IDEA how many supergurly kits there were out there until I went back to only boys. This is the biggest and easiest criterion to judge whether I will even consider buying a kit.

I will only buy kits with well done previews, nice logos, & NO misspelled words or other glaring errors. I'm a customer, and I expect professonalism and quality control in the scrapping world as I do at any store I frequent. Those designers who have branded themselves with a specific preview layout, font, etc. so that I can recognize their wares get my money because I know they take themselves and their business seriously and have spent some time and energy on making a name (ha!) for him or herself.

I am more apt to buy a 'questionable,' as in something I may not immediately be drawn to, kit if it is from a designer who I buy from frequently, anyways.

Although papers are not usually a draw for me since I only scrap with 1-2 papers per kit per layout, if they are very unique papers that have been handpainted, glittered, scrolled, etc., I will be more apt to buy.

Interesting and unique elements and a great multi-purpose alpha are my ultimate draws, however. Along the same lines, anything that mimics being a designer -- overlays, templates, etc. -- sucks me in, too.

unique elements that I can see gracing my pages with my photos! and then color. If it's not in a color that appeals to me, then I pass.

Okay, there has to be something sparkley in it for me to buy it. I love glitter and sequins. I really like stitching, that is always a big selling point. I love when there is an alpha (sparkley ones are my favorite)! I love flowers that look touchable. So I guess I buy for the elements. I like it when there are brushes with a kit.

Usually color, then elements.

I used to buy a lot, based on just the preview, then was disappointed with what was inside, because I hadn't read the description of how MUCH is in the kit. So I read that now as well, because I've turned into a bit of a kit scrapper, and like to be sure my kits are loaded with the things I need.

First off, I love that you used the word "criterion" (no one ever gets that right!) ... and ITA about the superfrilly rainbowed pink unicorn kit ... since I have two boys. It does kind of kill me because I love some of the girly kits, but they are horribly impractical for me, sigh.

I also look at previews and CT layouts. I find more kits by looking at layouts than the shoppe.

Definitely unique elements. Theme and color scheme are big draws too.

First thing I look at is whether it's a color scheme I'll use on multiple pages. Then I look at the papers (versatile patterns and mix of colors and solids), and finally the elements. I steer away from anything too themed unless it's a theme I have lots of pictures for, like building and construction. Price matters, too--I'm a lot pickier about what I buy for $5 than for $1. And like some people said, the preview is huge for me.

However if it is not super frilly and just sorta frilly and I like it, I may buy it. Ive done some CT pages with girly kits that are some of my favorites.

But lately a good fence sells me. Julies kit, Mistys kit saw that those fences, and SOLD!

I am SO making a pink unicorn kit now... haha jk

honestly... It's totally random what grabs my eye. No rhyme or reason.. just whatever I'm in the mood for (ok.. we all know my primary colour choice.. so if that's in a kit, it proll catches my eye faster lol)

For me, it's the LO's I see with it. Putting CT pages in the product description is a huge huge thing for me, especially if I don't have time to gallery surf. If I click on the kit and then I am taken to LO's that are totally rockin' I usually buy it. I don't like it when I have not seen any LO's with a kit.

Definitely color. I know what colors I'll use and what ones I won't and even if I love the theme of a kit, if it's not in the colors I'm comfortable using I'll leave it at the store every time. I love bright colors and soft colors and have no real use for dark colors - unless it's a dark color mixed with brights. But all dark colors, nope.

Oh, and the kit has to be packed with elements too (and a ribbon wrap doesn't hurt either - I freaking love those things!). I'm so disappointed with a few of the kits I bought very early on because they just don't have enough elements to keep me interested. :p

I'm with Jaime. BIG emphasis on color here. Though, package an action, layer style, alpha in .abr file in the kit, and this sucker/lazy bug will usually bite...

colors, price, elements and then who designed it. All equal contributors to my decision. Although price is a big part of it. I like sales and FWP. I wanted to suggest for designers here if you had a mini kit that maybe had like 2 or 3 papers and a handful of elements that would coordinate with the kit for a limited time only say a week instead of the quickpages or boardbook type layouts that are FWP now that would be so cool. I personally do not use those full sized quickpages or the mini ones. I might one day but a FWP coordinating mini-kit would likely piush me oiver the edge on alot of purchases
