Blu-Ray is too expensive!

So DH bought a new laptop when he deployed and of course he got all the bells and whistles and it has a blueay dvd player. Which I don't know WHY he did that b/c we have a progressive scan DVD player at home that bumps up regular DVDs to high-def and won't play bluay. So now are we going to buy regular and bluay movies?! Anyway, he went and bought TWO bluay movies last night and it was 60 dollars!!!! For TWO movies!!! I couldn't believe he would spend that much money on 2 movies. I mean...think of all the scrap stuff I could get for 60 dollars! It's all about men and their toys :mad:

LOL!
That does seem high-I'm not a movie buyer at all so it seems REALLY high to me.
I hope they were awesome movies that you like too!

Jordan bought the PS3 last year after Christmas/New Years after watching a bluay on my brothers.

If you have a big screen tv, bluay is totally worth it. We lookat it as saving money by not going to the movies and watching them at home. Cuz at night with all the lights turned off and surround sound on, it really is like being in a movie theater.

oh yes we have all the bells and whistles on our tv watching experience..DH bought a Sony Bravia flat screen when he got home from Afghanistan...that's when he got the progressive scan DVD player b/c it was "the best" 2 years ago.. and honestly I can't tell the difference between high-def on that dvd player and the bluay..they both have great pic and sound...it's just another new toy for DH to play with is all...but at nearly 30 bucks a movie...I don't see the point right now when we can get the same pic/sound on the progressive scan kwim?

If you have Netflix you can rent blu-Rays. (Although they recently added a $1 "service charge" for bluRay users!)

We have a large LCD screen TV and a PS3 and the Blueays look rad on it. They are way pricey though, so we only buy the must haves.

they are high but i can see the difference in the picture quality. we have a few; we bought them to play in our PS3. but they were on sale i think.

I think I heard that eventually DVD's would be phased out and Blu-Ray is the future. Not sure if/when that would ever happen. I guess kinda like when DVD came they were a little pricier and eventually replaced VHS. We have hundreds of VHS still which are basically worthless now

i loathe sony and their monopoly over the high-definition market. it makes me sick to my stomach. :blink: sorry. i don't even think this is what you were talking about. :D

::rant over::

Yeah, I kinda think bluay is a waste of money right now. I love movies, but I don't really get the point of it. I watch movies for the story and don't spend a whole lot of time (if any) analyzing how "clear" the picture is. It seems like an excuse by the movie industry just to make us all buy new technology (again) and buy all the same movies we already have again.

My husband is of the opinion that there won't be a "next thing" after bluay, since everything will be digital. We've got a 108" screen and a projector (yeah, we love our movies), and we'll get a PS3 so we can watch high-def. We'll only buy the must-haves, like LOTR, since they're so expensive. They are beautiful, though. I can't see how if would be worth it on a laptop, but that's just me.

Dawn, I sooooo agree with you!! I think it's just a bunch of hype to get suckas to buy more stuff they don't really need, lol! DH "needs" a projection TV, he "needs" a this, he "needs" a that. Gimme a break, dude...what we have is JUST freaking FINE!

ya, it's totally a way to keep the market going. agreed. that's why my hubby has a good paying job at best buy.

although, we bought the high def player for our x-box and we have about 20 high def movies (transformers is the best!)...they rock. i am talking they are crazy clear. you feel like your in the theatre. anywho, now that bluay took out HD we are pretty sad. thank goodness our player up-coverts so reg DVD's still look better than usual.
