So I bought a kit at {we are} storytellers $1 sale yesterday and I'm trying to unzip it. I have Vista on my PC and it looks like the kit (Autumn Sky) was zipped using a Mac). I tried to use the tutorial that Robin posted on unzipping Mac files on Vista, but I'm not getting the same dialoge boxes. Here's what I get when I click "extract all files"...

A box entitled "Copy File" pops up that says, "There is already a file with the same name as the folder name you specified. Specify a different name" and then three button choices... Try Again, Skip, and Cancel.

And I'm not able to extract my files and its really starting to piss me off!!

HELP!!!!!!!!

Well, I'll be darn........I've had a few of those and could never understand why they wouldn't unzip. I'm no help though.

I use WinRAR to unzip my files and I've never had a problem unzipping files that were zipped using a Mac. It's a free program, maybe try that?

ugh. I hate to download stuff onto my PC that I don't really need. But it looks like I might have to get WinRar.

This was never an issue when I had Windows XP

use winrar...it unzips super fast compared to what came with my computer. I actually like it better then winzip or whatever its called

Jenny, try renaming the zip file and extracting.
If that dosen't work, try right clicking on the zip and selecting "extract files", and then when the box pops up select a different folder than where the zip is located.

I have this with Vista too - if you say Skip to the first question and Ok to the second (or vis virsa) it works fine. You end up with an extra folder that has some Mac crap that you can delete :)

Ok, so I used Winrar and it worked. Then I just uninstalled winrar cuz I hate having that stuff clogging up my PC. Thanks for the tips ladies!!

This is what I do - and it is the easiest. Open up the core folder (there's the download folder, then there will be a folder inside of it - this is the one to open). Select all of the files in the folder, then move them into whatever folder you would normally put your extracted documents in. That's it.

I have a love/hate relationship with WinRAR - with some of the European sites, their zipped files are in .rar only, so I have to use it for that. But I usually get some nasty message about registering it, etc. each time I open/use it.

Sorry, Jenny..it's a known issue with the unzip feature in Vista. The best advice is to use a good unzip utility that is not produced by Microsoft (WinRar is what I use, but there are lots out there).

Jenny, WinRAR doesn't take up much space on your computer - I'd have just left it installed and used it instead of the Windows unzip program...it works SO much better!
