I'm new to the whole digital scrap world and want to know what everyone thinks about scrap lifting?
Is it insulting to lift someone elses work or is it flattering to the designer?
I feel really weird when I'm inspired by someone else s work and want to lift it! It almost feels like I'm doing something wrong lol!
So is scrap lifting a good thing or not??

I personally think it's fine as long as you credit the original lo and you don't just "copy" the lo, but make it your own, KWIM?

It is ok to lift someone as long as you credit the original layout. For example. I lifted "Sun" by member name with a link.

Exactly what Becca and Tracie said.. just make sure to credit, and it's totally fine. :)

IMO it's actually flattering that someone thinks your work is good enough for them to use it as a guide for their own page. I know when I use to make cards, I found someone make an identical one and posted it online. She couldn't remember where she got it from (she didn't include me in the credits but noted it was a lift) and I wrote her back saying she did a great job on the lift. :)

I think it's totally fine as long as you credit. I know I'm always flattered when someone lifts me. They even have challenges here at SSD where the whole point is to lift someone.

I think it's a great thing - as long as you remember to credit the original layout artist in your credits :)
I've been lifted a time or two and was really honored by it!

This is going to be a litlle long. But here is what I do. When I find a layout I want to lift, I right click on it. I save it to a file of my favorite layouts. Then I copy the link from the address bar and I paste it to the properties. Then, even of it is months later, I know exactly where I found it.
So you have to give credit by posting the link of the original layout. And I have never had anyone say they were upset that I lifted them. I think it would be very flattering that someone liked my style enough to lift it. :)

I agree with the above comments!
This is the best article I have found on scraplifting so far, over on the Peppermint Creative blog: The Art of Scraplifting (http://peppermintcreative.com/blog/?p=1037)

Wow you ladies are fast lol! I feel much better lol! I usually just take a few designs and incorporate things I like from each ...kind of like a guide to learn new things. But I saw a page today I really loved and wanted to lift but my page turned out very similar to her page and I wasnt sure if that was insulting or not. Id absolutely credit her for it...just wasnt sure if it was frowned upon or not!
You ladies are great here lol!Im not use to responses so fast on message boards lol!
Nettie B- thx for the link to that article..that helps!

I think it's totally fine. Just credit your lift. Otherwise I think most people would be flattered. Plus it can help you get out of a scrap slump!

I've been lifted only one time that I know of, and she even emailed me to ask my permission  I was completely honored by it and gave her my blessing...just about put tears in my eyes, I was so happy :)

Heather...what a great idea to put the link of the layout in the properties!
I do right click and save layouts to an inspiration journal, but used to only put the site SSD/2peas etc and then the original posters userid...
but the link is way better!!!
Thanks...

I am very thankful for the lifting system that seems to have worked itself out in the digiscrap world. I have learned so much about scrapping these past few months from lifting other people's layouts.

I'm with everyone else--lifts are fine and I'd be flattered to be lifted! Just give credit. I've heard about people making the EXACT same page (same kit, etc) and I think if you do that maybe you shouldn't post it, but a similar page is totally fine.

Yup! I'm a thinker. I usually add to favorites, but I have found a few at other galleries and I don't keep a favorites list there. So it is just so easy to copy/paste.
