Anyone have a Moby Wrap?

I'm thinking of getting one for this baby but I don't want to spend that much on it if it's not a good sling. I had a different style with Avery and I was never really crazy about it but used it b/c I had it. This time I want one that I really like. If you've had one are they easy to use?

I bought one but, obvsiously, can't put it to use yet. LOL

FWIW, I have two friends who had babies this year who have a Moby and they raved about them. That's why I bought one.

I have a wrap that is similar, but unlike the Moby, mine is not stretchy and the fabric is woven. My is called a Vatanai, it's ridiculously expensive, but SOOOOOOOOO worth it, IMO.

I didn't get a Moby b/c several friends told me they were only good for small babies, since they stretch and don't support them well when they get heavier. I actually made my own wraps and they worked awesome. Have you checked out thebabywearer.com? They have great tutorials and reviews of lots of different kinds of wraps, slings, and carriers, and also some instructions for making your own. I'll be glad to answer any other questions you may have about making one if you'd like. HTH!

I didn't like the Moby wrap....altough I have a lot of friends that loved using theirs.

I like the Baby Bjorn better...

I have one and since I didn't have the patience to learn how to use it, it didn't get used much...but I used it when I walked in the Relay for Life carrying Peyton {11 months} and it was AWESOME..it is very sturdy for older children, you just have to learn how to use it...I wish I had learned how to use it much much sooner...

I have a Maya wrap and I like it ok, Baby Bjorn was really great, but my favorite is my Mei Tai.

I personally have only used a hotsling(front carry when Meri was a teeny baby and now hip carry for quick trips in the store) and an ergo(when I go on long hikes).
But my SIL has a moby and she loves it. I've heard they distribute the weight really well and her baby was big. Here are a few pictures of him in it(cause I think he's cute):

Love my Moby! I had a mei tai, Bjorn, and pouch sling with my 1st. He HATED the mei tai as he got older because he felt too restricted. The Bjorn never distributed the weight well enough and my back hurt as he got older and heavier. I really loved my pouch sling - just a no name brand I bought off of ebay. But my favorite is the moby because it's so soft and versatile. I can't wait to use it again with this one on the way. I talked my sister and SIL into getting them with their 2nd babies and they both love them.

I had a Baby Bjorn with #1, and hated it so I got a Maya Wrap and never used it.

This time I got a Moby and I still wear it when we take the kids to the beach, my dd is 15 months now. It is pretty stretchy, but that's a good thing cause I'm not so little round the middle, LOL.

I bought a "Cuddly Wrap" for my first, (which is the same as a moby wrap) and since she hated HATED being swaddled it was prety much useless. She just hated being in it, and it took me forever to tie it and I didn't have the patience to keep trying all day long. My second was the same, he didn't care for it at all. I used a Baby bjorn I bought used, and it was a lifesaver. Mostly though I carried them in my arms a lot, and got strong arms. *LOL* not so convienent, but we didn't go out a lot!

From what I've read on The Babywearer, the Moby is a pretty good sling for its price, especially for little babies. Depending on how long you intend to wear your child, there are better alternatives if you only want to buy one thing. So if you're mostly looking for something for the first few months, and you like the idea of putting it on and keeping it on for a chunk of time while you pop the baby in and out as needed, the Moby may suit you. Other carriers may be better if you want something you can put on quickly and take off anytime the baby isn't in it. I've got Mei Tais, pouches, and ring slings (some purchased, most I sewed) from when DS2 was little, and the one thing I don't have is a stretchy wrap. I'm going to get one of the Wrapsody stretchy wraps, which is similar to Moby but a little less stretchy and therefore better for heavier babies. (It's also more expensive. If you do any wrap research, they were called Gypsy Mama until recently.)

If you want to get only one carrier to last as long as possible, I'd go for a Maya Wrap Lightly Padded Ring Sling (different style from the original Maya Wrap) or a Mei Tai. I can still wear my 2.5 year old in my Maya Wrap or a Mei Tai (though these days I don't wear him much because 33 weeks pregnant is enough added weight). If I could only have 1 carrier to get me from infancy through toddlerhood, I'd get a Mei Tai.

I wish I had gotten one! I so plan to with my next child (if I have one).

make your own! Just go by 5-6 yards of fabric and you got it! I made one (haven't used it yet) and it was sooooo much cheaper that way and I'm glad I did because it is a LOT of fabric! a lot! But, the ones at loveyduds are SUPER cute!

Oh man - wish that had been around when I carried my boys!!

I still have my Maya. I loved it to death. Connor - not so much. He just did not like being confined at all. He wasn't a baby that liked to be carried much anyway. But Aiden loved it. We never really tried any others.

I bought one for my son and he was the type of baby that didn't like to be in things like that. He didn't even like to be swaddled. So I have one that I was going to sell on Ebay but if you would like you can buy mine. It is the Indigo color. I have maybe used it twice. Let me know

I have one (not the Moby, but the same idea), and I LOVE it. I find that it distributes the weight really well, and my baby always zonks out the moment she's in it because it's so snuggly. I got mine off Loveyduds on Etsy with a matching nursing cover. Here's the one I got:

Thanks so much for the link, Chelsey! I LOVE the look of those! I've always wanted a carrier with the Carnival pattern, and now that I'm having a girl I can justify it. I may end up going with one of those instead of the Wrapsody I was going to order.

I'm glad you like them. She was great to work with as well. I'm going to be buying these for all my sisters/SILs when they have babies. She also has a link to her website where she has tons more so you have a larger selection of fabric, but it sounds like you already know what you're looking for!

I don't know if I'll get as long out of it as a Wrapsody, but I was really looking for something for the cold winter days when I'll have a newborn, and these are so pretty I couldn't resist. And now I WILL NOT order any more baby carriers. Really. I mean it. All I can say is that SSD better hurry up and reopen its store because digi supplies are a lot cheaper than carriers!

Thanks for the replies..I'm really only wanting something for the first couple of months so I'm not wanting to spend a lot of money. I have bjorn that I used with DS as he got older so I'll have that too if I need it. I'm going to check out these other suggestions. thanks!
