be sure and thank a guardsman! :) (well any military but I'm partial to guardsmen myself :) ) But most guardsmen in today's world are veterans..some 2-3 times over..so tell em thanks..it means a lot :)

I'm loving this song...3 Doors Down is my favorite band..not only are they good ole Mississippi boys but they are very supportive of our troops :)

David has the day off tomorrow, which is nice for him! I plan on calling my dad tomorrow and I sent him an e-card in case I can't get in touch with him. That song is nice!!!

cant hear the song but Im sure it is really nice. We had veterans day celebrations here locally all weekend. Im wondering if there is anything planned for tomorrow. They usually have a big thing going on at the local vietnam veterans memorial down the road from me. I didnt think to check if it was this weekend or not. Weve went the last two years and I always make sure to thank those who are there and to donate a few extra dollars that day.

My FIL was an Air Force Colonel and a POW at Buchenwald in WWII. He was shot down twice, in South Africa and France (which led to his imprisonment). He was a figher pilot and shot down many Nazis. My dad was in the Navy during WWII.

I thank everyone who has ever served in the military - without them, we would not still be a free nation.

Thanks to all of you who's SO (or yourself) who are serving our country!

My dh served in the Army (tank driver on East/West German border). My father is also served in the Army (Berlin right before the wall went up) and my older brother served in the Navy. My kids' school had a Veteran's Day program last Friday. It's very nice because they always have a breakfast for the Vets, and then the kids sing songs to celebrate them! Very touching show every year!

It'd be difficult to forget in my family. My dad was in the Marines and fought in the Korean War. Two of his brothers served in the Navy during WWII; one was at Pearl Harbor when it was bombed and earned a Navy Cross for rescuing men from a sinking submarine. The other was captured in Corrigadore, survived the death march and came home at the end of the war.
Three of my mother's uncles also served in WWII, all in the army. Two served in europe (one was a bomber pilot) and the other served in the Aleution campaign. I also had a cousin who served 2 tours in Nam.
I come from a family that until the recent conflicts has always gone to serve their country and for that I am very proud :)

of course we should thank all veterans/military..I just said guardsman b/c hubby in in the guard and sometimes they get overlooked :) ...he's active duty..full time so we're more of a traditional military family but the traditional guard families sometimes don't get the recognition they deserve. Even though today traditional (2 weeks a year/1 weekend a month) doesn't mean much..most are deployed, been deployed or are deploying.

Anyway...my family too has a many veterans..my grandfather and his 3 brothers all served in WWII - 1 navy, 2 army, 1 marines and all came home! I have too many cousins/uncles to count who have and are serving..we're definately a military family.

My grandfather was in the Army during the Korean War, my uncle served in Vietnam, my cousin spent a couple of years in the Navy and is now a Navy wife and I am on my 10th year in the Air Guard (7 of which have been active duty guard). So I thank all those that serve with me.

DH served in the Army for 11 years. He went to Vietnam just after his 18th birthday and was there for a year; he was shot down once while he was there but blessed to not be injured.

To all of the military members and their families here you have my deepest respect and appreciation. Thank you for fighting for our freedom and all the sacrifices you make every day. I wish you weren't underpaid and I wish you always received the respect you deserve. We love you, and can't ever thank you enough.
Since we have lots of military in our family we're skipping regular school lessons today and doing a Veteran's Day lesson. And telling Kassi a little more about that flag in the shadowbox in the living room, in honor of her grandfathers and cousins and all of you.
