I have a stubborn baby girl...

she's breech! So today we cancelled my induction on the 8th and scheduled a c-section on the 4th instead. Which means DH has to reschedule his leave/flight but hopefully that won't be a problem. My doc said that the chances of her flipping over at this point are slim to none and since she's so BIG he went ahead and scheduled the section.

I had an u/s to check position and just like I thought she is HUGE...right now at 35 weeks (according to my original due date) she's estimated at 6 lbs 5 oz and 16 1/2 inches. My u/s showed her measuring 37 weeks which is right on with how far ahead I've been measuring so far. The u/s tech was so funny..she couldn't get over how big she is right now.

So I have mixed feelings about having a section..it has it's good and bad points I guess...I'm not thrilled about having surgery but it does mean that I can go ahead and have my tubes tied which saves DH having to have his jewels snipped :p That's the first thing he asked when I told him...he wanted to know if I told him I wanted it done lol..and it's scheduled 4 days earlier than my induction which means I'll see DH and baby sooner.

Here's a pic from the 4D they did today, she would not cooperate and kept her arm in front of her face..you probably can't tell but this is her profile, you can see her ear and arm/hands in front of her face. I was really wanting to see her face :(

ooh, breech scares me! Emma was breech for a little while, but luckily she turned on her own. i hope everything goes smoothly! aren't you excited? you're so close!!!

Well, that stinks she's so stubborn.
But hooray for seeing her and DH even sooner!! :) At least she's healthy, even if she is in the wrong position :)

I have had three c-sections and they were so easy!! I didnt even need any pain meds once I got out of the hospital. Went grocery shopping the day I got home from the hospital with two of the three. From the horror stories I have heard from women who had vaginal deliveries Im glad I never had to have one. After my second I am really glad as he was 11 pounds and 24 inches and the only one I had any extended labor for. My first went into fetal distress at the beginning of labor and my third I had premature

my sister is due in 9 days and luckily the baby is in position. however, her baby is stubborn on a whole different level. they could never find out the sex! the baby always had it's legs crossed. booo for stubborn babies. booo. hopefully everything works out with your hubby getting here in time and stuff! i'm sure it will.

Oh yeah..DS was vaginal NATURAL childbirth..he came too fast for any pain meds so I had him the old fashioned way which was kind of traumatic when you're not expecting it. I guess this time I get to see the other side of the childbirth spectrum..not feeling anything sounds good though :) b/c last time I felt EVERYTHING lol

My Connor was breech. It didn't matter since he was a scheduled c-section anyways. :)

I've had two c-sections. First was an emergency after 26 hours of hard labor. The second was scheduled and AMAZING. I mean, its no walk in the park or anything, but its HANDS DOWN better that my first birth experience. The nice thing about a scheduled is that the spinal works better than an epidural (as far as surgery goes) and it wears off faster so you can get up and around soon. Also, your body isn't ravaged from hours and hours of labor. Recovery tends to be faster and smoother.

Plus, you get to stay a few x-tra days in the hospital getting pampered by the nurses and getting as much rest as you want before you go home and back to "real life". :p

Congrats on getting to see baby girl and DH sooner! Its getting so close!!

I already told Becca I'm gonna spank her baby when I see him/her. Thats one naughty baby for making us throw her a YELLOW baby shower. lol :p

Both my boys were delivered breech lol. Neither of them could have been C-Sections even if that was what I wanted. Lukas was nearly born down a toilet and Leo was born at the bottom of Mark's stairs. Good luck with your C-Section hun hope everything goes smoothly for you. Hugs Crystal xx

had all 3 of mine natural and wouldn't have it any other way. LOL there's no way I want anyone cutting me open. and as for having my tubes tied? heck no, I've heard too many women having extremely painful menses out there after having their tubes tied. I'd tell hubby he still has to have his jewels cut!! LOL

There are so many of you guys getting close to delivery! how exciting for all of you!!!

C-sections vary.

I've had 3,and the first time it just really shocked my body. I stayed 8 days from complications and couldn't walk until day two.

With Naomi I was walking to the NICU after only 4 hours! It went very smoothly!

With Parker though my incision opened up and never FULLY closed until he was four months old! :(

I also experienced quite a bit of pain on days two and three because of my tubal with Parker and so that is what hurt the most with him.

With Naomi and Parker I had to stay 6 days each, but that was due to them being in the NICU, not me :)

I don't understand celebs and such who schedule c-sections instead of having a baby vaginally. I would have LOVED to not to have major surgery 3x.

That being said, I would take a c-section any day over trying to deliver a breech baby or having a baby turned. Esp. if said baby is so big like your little girl is!

I am sure you will do great! Is your mom going to be keeping Avery? Yay for seeing your lil girl and your hubby a few days sooner!!

I had a very positive experience with my second child (planned c-section). I actually talked my Dr. into letting me leave the hospital the next day! Hope yours is a pleasant experience!

DS1 flipped to breech at 39w6d. Rotten little so & so. A week later I had a scheduled cs & it went very well (aside from me being petrified and in tears at the thought of getting the spinal). Once the morphine wore off I felt like I had done far too many crunches while someone whacked me in the abs with a bat. Bruised & sore doesn't quite convey how it felt but it wasn't really painful, just really sore. They have good meds for that. :) But by day 3 I was just 'too many crunches' sore & only a bit tender when I left the hospital the next day. By the time we went for his one week check up I was feeling pretty good.

Yeah, Mason was the same...I was induced though, but he started coming WAY too fast and I never got any pain meds. I went in there asking for an epidural, lol...they wouldn't give me one until I was well into labor - which happened all of a sudden, lol. Sucked, hardcore. BUT, I got to have an epidural with Natalie and honestly, if I knew what THAT felt like, I would have gone natural with her. If I ever have a 3rd (not really possible, but things sometimes happen, I guess, lol)...it'll be natural - I didn't react well to the epidural (the urge to push felt like REALLY strong contractions - while with Mason, once I had the urge to push, all pain went away).

Yeah, I forgot to mention that...the meds! I personally recommend only taking Motrin after day two. I found I felt much more coherent. After the duramorph wore off, I told them to give me Tylenol 3 + codeine rather than the "harder" drugs they offered like Percoset...I didn't want to be any sleepier or out of it than you already are with a newborn! After about 2-3 days I went to just Motrin. With a c-section, most of your pain comes from inflammation so the Motrin is so much better for the problem than masking it!

Well, the only reason for the section is b/c she's breech. I think too many sections are done now a days but my doc did say that she is going to be big and trying to turn her would be worse than the section and with my history of a fast labor with DS he doesn't want to chance the baby going into distress. I've had surgery before..had a breast reduction in 01 where they removed 7 lbs total from my breasts and left me with over 100 stitches. I handle pain pretty well so I'm not too worried about that. I just don't want to be in the hospital very long since DH only has a short amount of time to be home with us.

Of course he's still going to check me between now and then and I guess there's always the chance she could flip at the last minute. Just as long as she waits for her Daddy I'm happy either way :)

Well Nikki, I guess seeing her & DH sooner than expected is a good thing!!! Best of luck to you in the coming weeks and I hope all goes smoothly for you guys.

How exciting! I've had 3 c-sections ... first one was after being in labor for over 24 hours (never added it up ... not all of it was hard labor). The first one was no picnic, but I blame that on it being an emergency C-section.

The second two went better ... was numb quite a bit longer than I was supposed to be with my 2nd, but my 3rd one was awesome. I was up and out of bed within 8 hours of surgery and tried to go to the bathroom. The only issue *I* had was with the morphine stuff they'd put in with the spinal ... it helped with pain for the first 24 hours plus, but it also made me VERY itchy, hot and nauseous. It might not hurt to ask whether there is any plan to use that. Not everyone reacts that way, but it'd probably be nice to know of the possibility ahead of time.

Does your hospital have a NICU in the event of any issues? It is so nice having them right there if the baby does have any issues. I wish my daughter would have been able to stay at the same hospital as me.

The 4th is a great day ... I can't wait to see pictures and hear all about it! :D

wow - the 4th is just around the corner! Good luck with the C - I had 3, and didn't think they were that bad (especially if you don't have to labor first)

I had a C-section too and it wasn't bad - though I have nothing to compare it to.

I will throw this out there. A friend of mine who just recently had her baby had known that her baby was breech for most of the pregnancy and really didn't want to have a C-section. At about 4 weeks before her due date, they wanted to schedule her section and she didn't want that. So, she got an inversion board - you know the kind that you sort of hang upside down and do sit ups on - and hung upside down while putting music at the top of her stomach and ice at the bottom. And in about 30 seconds to a minute, they watched their daughter do a complete turn. I will warn you - if you decide to try it - she got very sick to her stomach for a few minutes afterwards but she said that beat having to go in for surgery. Just wanted to share that.

Good luck Nikki! My baby was delivered by C-section because he was in distress. I know you and baby will be fine! Time to celebrate since DH will be home early!!!

Oh honey, I'm sure you have mixed emotions about this since it's definitely not what you planned or expected, but it's all gonna be fine.

We had to prepare ourselves for this with Wes since he was already measuring 6 lb. 2 oz. when I was only 32 weeks. I ended up w/ a vaginal delivery, and he was 9 lb. 1 oz. My thought has been since then (and is now with another big baby coming soon -- already measuring 3 wks ahead) that I would rather schedule a c-section that my doctor (whom I trust very very much) feels is necessary than go through labor and end up with an emergency section.

I'll definitely be keeping you in my prayers. But I'm so excited that it's going to be even a few days earlier for you to meet her and to see your dh!!

My second baby was a flipper. He was going from head down to breach all the time up until the end (he was 7lbs 3 oz). Finally at my appt when I was 38 1/2 weeks, my doctor scheduled an induction cause I wanted to make sure he was head down! So, there still is some hope that she can flip! Good luck if you have a C-section, though!! It will nice to have your husband home for a while, I'm sure.

Wow! She is a good size already....Glad your hubby will be home 4 days earlier for you....Will you have someone to help you when he has to go back? I know my sister had a c-section and her tubes tied and she said she was so sore, much more so because of the tubal ligation....
Not much longer now....

I've had natural childbirth with 2 of mine, and I was very happy for it. But I would NOT have wanted to try that with a breech baby! It scares me too. What a little stinker for flipping over this late!!! I hope that everything goes well Nikki, it's not much longer now!!!

Awww (((hugs))) Nikki!! I would be a little nervous too!! I was really worried about the whole breech thing, but this little has been head down for quite some time!! The bright side to all of this is, like you said, that you get to see DH and baby girl sooner!! YAY!! Wow!! Girl, you are getting SO close!!

Oh gosh I don't see myself doing that lol...I could barely walk after having to lay on the doc's exam table for 30 minutes yesterday..I just don't see me hanging upside down..it's cool that it worked though :)

Thanks for the encouragement everyone...I'm really not worried about the section at all as far as complications or anything..I have a really good doctor who I know wouldn't schedule it unless he thought it was really necessary. The only thing that I'm not crazy about as far as having the section is having to stay in the hospital longer..b/c I want to spend as much time at home with DH as I can kwim?

But honestly after the traumatic labor experience I had with DS (no epidural, very fast, very painful lol) I'm at least looking a little forward to a more controlled environment...I had high blood pressure with DS as well so it was a little dicey for a while..worrying about eclampsyia and stuff..so this time...I'll just relax and not feel anything and enjoy seeing her for the first time.

And it works out that DH will actually get to stay a few extra days so now he'll be here on the 3rd and leave on the 15th! So that's good news. And I do have my mom to help once he's gone but I'm sure by the 15th I'll be fine as far as healing from the section goes.

Anyway, I'm just excited..ready for the 3rd to be here and this LONG wait to be over :)

Big changes! I hope all goes well for you. I can't see the picture though (work blocks them), wish I could.
