Silly digi question from a newbie

This weekend I purchased Zoe Pearn's Cheeky Girl digi kit. Since I am quite new to digi scrapping I have a question that might sounds silly to you. :unsure: The kit contains safety pins. How do I make these safety pins look like they go through paper? Do I erase a part of the safety pin? I seriously have no idea.

Thanks hon! It was great! Had a blast, got some OK photos (took a small, slightly crappy camera rather than my big one). Had some drama back home when our fire alarm went off (no fire, thank god) and the firemen almost bashed down our door with a huge ax. But crisis was averted and all is well. :) Glad to be home, but haven't had a moment to rest since landing in Denver. Haven't even unzipped the suitcases yet. :huh:
