Emma's dental restoration

i mentioned before that Emma has some teeth needing to be fixed. well, she goes in on December 23 at 6 am for her outpatient dental restoration. i'm so nervous. they sent me a packet of info on what needs to be done beforehand. i scheduled her a pre-anesthetic physical with her doctor on the 11th of December, then we go see her dentest on the 17th to get the orders for her lab work and to discuss any questions i will have. then, the night before, she cant have anything to eat or drink after midnight. i can have her wear comfy jammies and even bring a favorite blankie or stuffed animal for her. i'm so scared. my poor baby. i'm glad she's getting them fixed, but if i wasnt such an idiot with letting her have milk in her bottles at night when she was younger she wouldnt even be having this problem. i am beating myself up with this. i've got to get Aidan completely off the bottle so his don't get like hers. he's being a tad bit easier, but i think i'm going to schedule him a dental appointment to get him checked out so i dont' go through this again with him.

my neice had problems with her teeth and she had to have hers pulled when she was like 3 I think. Hers came from the bottle too. I threw my daughters bottles away when she was 1 year old but then I had her brother at 2 and she would steal his bottles when he was a little older and drink them. She didnt even care it was formula in them LOL. That didnt last long with her. I think both the boys were off the bottle between the ages of 1 and 15 months. I on the other hand drank from a bottle til I was like four years old!! I clearly remember taking my Fred Flintstone bottle everywhere with me so I know I had to be at least four or maybe even five.

Anyhow hope it goes well and she doesnt have to much pain or anything from the procedures

Oh sweetie! I can relate both as a mom who has been through the SAME thing and as a dental assistant.

Kendra had to have a procedure just like that when she was 3. It was an outpatient deal, and they put her out to do it. She came out with 3 crowns and a filling. And honestly, as nervous as I was about the whole thing (I cried a LOT), it was really not a big deal at all. In fact, even now at age 10 she loves her crowns. She used to say that she was a *real* princess because she had crowns. LOL!

Some kids just have weaker enamel than others. Kendra never slept with a bottle and we brushed regularly, and she still had that problem. So try not to beat yourself up because it could've happened anyway. You're getting it fixed, and that's the most important thing!

What's done is done Corey, there's no sense in beating yourself up over it! Like Libby said, you're getting it taken care of and that's all that really matters.

I'm sure everything will go just fine and she'll be as good as new :) Hugs!!

awww i soo feel for you! lily went through this same thing when she was four.. she got her bad teeth from me. They say that if you have problems with your teeth when you are pregnant (cavities etc) that the bacteria is passed along in the womb. Who knows if thats exactly what caused lily's teeth but the fact is she has them. lol. She had to get some crowns done and be put under. The worst of it was them putting in the iv needle.. other than that realy it was OK. when she woke up she was confused on where she was but honestly after everything had worn off she was telling jokes to the nurse and was just fine! Hope things go well for your daughter!!

My Annika went through the same. Not only do I have HORRIBLE teeth, but my lil' girl does too. Her sitter used to put her down for a nap with JUICE. OMG, I could have killed her. Annika had to get four crowns when she was 3.

I used to beat myself up over too, but not anymore. Now, I just make sure she brushes and flosses. Good news is that at her last visit, she had NO cavaties. :)

thanks eveyrone! i know she'll be okay. it will just be hard to see my small little girl being worked on like that, lol. i think it'll be harder on me than her, lol.

I knew I wasn't crazy!
I've always told my mom that my first memory was sitting in the back of my parent's car at the Drive In theater drinking out of a Fred Flintstone bottle while my mom and dad watched a movie. My mom doesn't remember it.

its hard to break them of the habit! i breastfed Chloe up until she was 2 and she just no longer wanted it. Emma and Aidan were both bottle fed and its a lot harder to get them off, mainly Emma. even now, at 3 she still drinks water out of it, but that's slowl coming to an end. Aidan still gets milk, but sleeps through the night pretty much without it, maybe some water occasionally. and i brush his teeth at night so that the milk doesn't sit on his teeth while he sleeps. that's what causes the decay. he has a slight problem i can see with one of his teeth, but i'm hoping they can fix it before it gets as bad as Emma's are. Chloe never had a problem and i used to breasfeed her at night. i guess breastmilk isn't as bad as cows milk on teeth.
