Which is better? Canon Or Nikon?

oh i'm drooling!! i have an older canon, the XT. when i bought mine it was right before the new XTi came out and i bought the body for $545 (i think) and then a lens for $108. so i'd say this is an AWESOME deal for the XS! i love mine, but sometimes i wish i had the money to upgrade. i'd snatch that up if i were you!

Nikon vs Canon is an age old question. Similar to the chicken vs the egg.

I prefer Nikon.
Jordan prefers Canon.

I always recommend going to a store and picking up both cameras (comparable canon and nikon) and playing with them. They feel TOTALLY different from one another, and that feel is what will usually make your decision for you.

Even though I'm a die hard Nikon girl, I honestly can say they are both excellent cameras.

I picked Nikon because I have a Nikon film SLR, N65 and I can use my old lenses on my Nikon D70 dlsr. My father also has a Nikon film, I believe his is an F5. I can also use his lenses.

If you have a family member with either a Nikon or Canon, consider that.

Great advice!! When i was shopping, I thought the Canon felt like a toy in my hand. The Nikon seemed more substantial.

What Col said. I am a Canon girl myself.

That being said, that is a pretty darn good deal. To buy the 10.1MP one on Amazon you can get it for around $450 the 75-300 lens is about $130 and then when you add camera bag, battery pack; UV protection filter it will pass that price.

I just got my Canon Rebel XT earlier in the year and love it...although I haven't done too much outside of the automatic setting. LOL

I'm a Canon girl. I agree with Col though, you really need to go hold it and see if it feels right for you. :)

I'm a Canon girl myself, I have the Canon XTi and it is a really great camera! I'm not too familiar with the new XS or XSi models, but I believe they both have the Live View and the XSi has more megapixels. I don't have the extra lens (75-300mm) that comes with that package but my Stepmom does for her XTi and I do know it is pretty much an outdoor only lens. The aperture just isn't low enough to get good pictures in low light indoors but it does work fine outdoors.

i ended up getting a nikon recently and i LOVE it to death...but if i did it all over again, i would go with the canon. my 2 cents.

Nikon because I'm a Nikon girl :p I have the D40 with the 18-55 kit lens and the 200mm vibration reduction lens (use that one all the time and LOVE IT).

They are both excellent. I hear that the matrix meter (light reading thingamajigger inside the camera) is more sensitive on Nikon's but personally I don't know for sure. Nikon gets you on the lenses. You can't just throw a sigma or off brand on any one you want and expect it to auto focus, and some won't even work with certain Nikon models. I think Canon is more user friendly with being able to switch lens brands, etc....

My dad owns a sporting goods store and everybody there swears by Nikon glass for their scopes, binoculors, etc... Between that and just going to the store to play with each one, that's how I decided. Many people have Canon and love them.

Just go to the store and play with each. Check the prices for lenses, warranties, cleaning jobs, things like that you will need in the future. That should help you decide!

I have a Canon XSi and I just love it!! I really need to take the time to learn more about it! But what I have learned this far I love!

I debated this for months before I bought my D40 last month. Everytime I was in Wal Mart, Target, Best Buy or Circuit City I playing with the cameras & checking out their accessories. I ended up going with the D40 because it felt best. I love it. I took 600 photos with it last month.

Whoa! I had no idea they were THAT bad. I bought my Fuji from them, they did try the bait and switch, but I'm pretty good at saying no. Got the camera fine. Geez...sorry about that!
