I've avoided board games for awhile now b/c I was too scarred by 1yo Lily throwing Hi Ho Cherries all over the place. But now I think the kids are old enough to play board games together.

Any games you'd recommend? Lily can read fairly well (for a 4yo I mean) so if some reading were required that be great.

thanks!

When my kids were little, they loved Monopoly Jr, Guess Who, and Zingo. :)

Chutes & Ladders is always popular here. I try to stay away from ones where one player can send another player back to start or something like that (e.g., Sorry, Parcheesi) -- those ones always cause feuds and crying.

When my kids were little, they loved Monopoly Jr, Guess Who, and Zingo. :)Does Monopoly Jr have an end point? I remember playing Monopoly as a kid and it seemed like the game NEVER ended.

Mine love Candyland, Boggle, Jr, Battleship (though Lily may be a bit young for that), pick up sticks, Kerplunk, Trouble/Sorry, Connect 4, Uno Jr and Uno (Jr just is easier for our 5yo, but they play both), Monopoly, Jr, and checkers. We're looking to do Cranium this year, we think...but there's a million of 'em and we don't know which one to do.

Hi. For that age group, I totally recommend Froggie Boogie. It is by a company called Blue Orange. They sell them on Amazon. Also, Pengoloo, by the same company. The pieces on both games are wood and nicely made. Uses memory skills and is not too frustrating. Also, if you are too tired to play the whole game, you can use less lilypads to get around(and finish) the game.

Also, the old stanbys Chutes and Ladders and CandyLand. Break the Ice has been fun too.

We have Trouble, Sorry and Monopoly Jr, as well as a couple of memory games. They've played a lot of games at the hospital - they really liked Guess Who and Connect 4. I hope to get a few more games for them soon. I have a box of Dora games, it has card games (Old Maid, Go Fish...and a couple others, can't remember), bingo, dominoes and checkers - the kids LOVE it.

What about Cariboo or Hullabaloo from the Cranium series. They are both for 3 up.

My kids are 4 and they love Candyland, Chutes and Ladders, Uno (we have this Uno (http://www.amazon.com/Mattel-41943-UNO-Attack/dp/B001F1LICM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1228923227&sr=1-2)), Raggedy Ann Board Game (http://www.raggedy-ann.com/vtgame.html), and Hi Ho Cherry O.

For Christmas they are getting the game Operation. I bought them the Hullabaloo game but it needs returned because it didn't work. :(

My DS is always talking about wanting this game: Flippin' Frogs Game (http://www.amazon.com/Mattel-K6498-Flippin-Frogs-Game/dp/B000QSI0CG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1228923443&sr=1-3) but I haven't found it at a price I'm willing to pay for it yet. LOL!

My DD mentions this: Elefun (http://www.amazon.com/Hasbro-40838-Elefun/dp/B00007GCYP/ref=pd_sim_t_40), but the same, haven't seen a good price to even consider yet.

I have been wanting to get them this: Hyper Dash (http://www.amazon.com/Wild-Planet-46001-Hyper-Dash/dp/B000TTPEXU/ref=pd_sim_t_31)

Memory games
Connect Four
Chutes & Ladders

I've never met a preschooler that didn't love Hungry Hungry Hippos ;)

I'd also look at Connect 4, and any of the express games! We bought Sorry Express and Monopoly Express last christmas, and love both of them!

Sorry, Uno (there are lots of variations), Balloon Lagoon, Guess Who (we have the Marvel heros edition), Connect Four, KerPlunk. We also play lots of card games with Cameron (almost 7). We like Big Fish Little Fish, Hit the Deck, Wig Out, and of course Old Maid.

My kids love playing Go Fish, lol...except Mason thinks it's "Goldfish", so that's entertaining, lmao. Natalie says "Shark Goldfish" (I dunno, she thought of it when she was overtired one night and it stuck).

We have a few games but the ones the kids play the most are Guess Who, Franklin (They have different questions for different ages so it works for older and younger kids), and Carcassonne (adult game but we take away the element of fields and just use building cities and roads and both kids love it), and kids Yahtzee.

My kids would love Monopoly Jr. They always want to play the adult version but they get board after 30 minutes.

Oh yes! I forgot all about Yahtzee. We have Yahtzee Jr (again, Marvel heros version) and its really fun and easy.

Another fun one is Jenga. Both my boys love that! We also play Sponge Bob Monopoly, Ker-Plunk, "spitting" Uno, Trouble, Life & Parcheesi. We also play Mousetrap, but shorten the game by putting together the whole trap, then just moving around the board. Now that they're older (9 & almost 8), I think we'll start playing it the correct way.

Oh yes, Operation is great, too. (psssssssst....we take the batteries out when we can't handle it.) HHH is fun, I just can't stand the slamming of the Hippo mouths.

You know, it's been a while since I've played Monopoly Jr, but I don't remember it going on and on like the real game does. It seems like it ends fairly quickly.

My kids love Cranium Hulabaloo - and its one they (4 & 7) can play without my intervention. It has them up and moving around and best of all NO SMALL PIECES!

Memory has always been a favorite of mine. My son could beat me since he was about 3 years old which is pretty sad. Clue Jr is fun. As well as Dont Wake Daddy, Twister, Ants in the Pants, Cooties, Candyland and Chutes and Ladders

Twister!! My kids played that at my SIL and loved that too! Another good one that doesn't have pieces to get lost.
