Phone Avoidance..

Am I the only one that gets nervous talking on the phone? I do everything I can do avoid having to call people.. its ridiculous I know. I'm pretty shy with most people and I'd rather email or whatever instead of having to actually call and talk to someone.. just wondering if i'm the only lunatic here or if anyone else shares my fear. lol.

I'm exactly the same way! I don't know why, I guess it's my former shy self manifesting itself ... that and I really don't enjoy talking on the phone that much. I pretty much only do it to make plans to meet in person or if the person doesn't live close by.

I don't necessarily avoid the phone, but if I can find the person I need to get ahold of via text or IM or whatever, I probably will. Except I can only text 140 characters at a time, so if I have a lot to say, I'll just call, lol.

ETA: Usually the only people I call are family, most of whom I can't get ahold of other ways, lol. And I know if I get on the phone with them, I won't get off for a LONG time...I do like to chat once I dial, lol.

Nope, you're totally not alone. I'm not a fan of talking on the phone. I LOVE to text and usually that instead. I don't like calling and ordering food and usually try to make Jordan do it. I don't like calling to make appointments, I don't like calling customer service, etc etc etc.

oh, I'm like you too! my hubby has to do all calls and I feel pretty shy at the phone.... don't know why! so you are not alone kristin! this is why I love online! I can talk to people chatting and need not use the phone

hey col, this is me :-)

I would much rather email. I have so much more time to think about what I am going to say before blurting out something that ends up doing damage.

I almost always have darcy call for me.. appointments etc.. friends (I think both bree and sonja could testify to that. haha)

Col...I'm the same way when it comes to ordering food or whatever. Trev makes fun of me and then FORCES me to call...I absolutely HATE doing it though. Totally inexplicable.

It's kind of funny though with me. Because I used to spend HOURS on the phone in high school with my 2 "boyfriends". Even in college I talked on the phone a lot to my long distance boyfriend.

I guess part of it is having to talk to a stranger. But even then, I don't really like talking on the phone with my friends either, lol.

Who knows. I accepted long ago that I'm a total weirdo :p

This is SO me. I actually don't mind talking on the phone if people call me but I hate having to call other people. Appointments, customer service, food, I usually try to get my DH to do it, otherwise I just put it off for as long as possible. :D

Omg, I do the exact same thing!!! I hate hate hate talking on the phone, and dh knows it and tries to make me do all the phone calling so I'll "GET OVER IT"...

it makes it WORSE!!

I hate making phone calls for my job. I dread them and always I am so relieved when I get VM or an out of service message. It just stresses me out.

I hate talking on the phone, too...funny thing is I don't mind it at work because then it's not 'personal', it's work. We don't even have a landline at home, only cells and I keep mine on vibrate, drives dh nuts :p.

I'd just much rather see the person I'm talking to because so much can be said with body language.

Yup, K, though I have actually talked to you on the 'phone' before, but that was long long ago, remember?! *lol*

I avoid the phone at all costs. The only people I regularly talk to on the phone are FI and my mom. I never call customer service. I never order pizza. I HATE IT. Texting/IM/email is so much more efficient! I can do other things at the same time or talk to more than one person at a time.

That was why my former job as a CSR was the worst. I was on the phone all day long talking to strangers! It was a nightmare.

I sooo don't like using the phone. Chatting with friends I can do (kinda. I've never really been a chatty cathy on the phone), but most everything else has me feeling all nervous for some reason. I always try to get DH to make the calls and he gets aggravated with me for being such a wuss. I too prefer email, etc.

P.S. I think we're probably a skewed sample set, K. It makes sense that those of us who frequent a message board and have a hobby that requires online participation would be less inclined to use the phone.

Not me.. but Jeff is exactly like that. It drives me INSANE. I have to make dr appts for him, call customer service, etc. When he's sick, I have to call into his work. Makes me crazy.

I also hate talking to people on the phone, I just feel I come across in a bad way so that is why I avoid it. I am just a much better writer than speaker! That's the journalism background in me!

Ok I'm not THAT bad. I'll call if I have to for myself. I only make Jordan call if it's takeout or something.

He will do almost anything to avoid doing it. He'll talk to his friends on the phone ALLLLLL day long.. like he uses almost twice as many cell minutes as me.. but he will NOT call dr's offices, sprint, pizza, nothing... unless I literally make him do it.

Like.. he'll be at home..and there will be a problem with comcast (which happens a lot because Comcast is evil) and he will call me at work and ask ME to call Comcast, when clearly they are going to ask me to troubleshoot things at home that I cannot do........ so he will wait until I come home and then make me call. Drives me INSANE.

I do not like calling strangers. I get aggravated with customer service and dont have very much patience. Ill call to order food and schedule appts but only if I have to. I do not have a probelm talking to someone I know though

I love caller I.D. so I screen my calls on a need to talk to basis only. The only pet peeve I have with email is...my family always uses it when there is a problem best discussed person to person via by phone or face to face. It's easy to misunderstand the tone of an email.
