I know it is an infection of some kind, abscess or something as it hurts in my ears and lymph glands too, but it's my teeth for sure. My dentist always said take 800 mg ibuprofen/500 tylenol at the same time and it's as effective as a narcotic without the side effects, and usually that helps but it's not touching it this time. I have the dentist office calling in a Rx for an antibiotic and Lortab (which I hate taking cause it usually doesn't work and only manages to upset my stomach) but I can't get those picked up till later this afternoon and I feel like I'm dying here I mean totally unbearable unmanageable pain. Are there any tips, tricks, home remedies or the like that you all can think of that I could try that might help? I have an appointment Monday and I just hope I can make it that long!

well this probably isn't the best idea but I've done it before in a pinch... swish some whiskey and spit it out.

Oh, that sucks. My suggestion was gonna be taking ibuprofen since that's also what my dentist told me to take since it helps with the swelling which usually causes the toothache. Hope you get some relief soon!

An ice pack might help, too - helps bring down some of the swelling which is causing part of the pain.

The whisky treatment is probably a great idea for you, too :)

Someone just told me yesterday if you rinse with peroxide and hold it in your mouth for about 10 minutes it makes a really big difference.

Do you have any whole cloves? Bite down on one of those for a few minutes, it helps a lot! One of those good old natural things!

I know how you're feeling...back before I was married, I had an abscess in one of my wisdom teeth - worst. pain. ever.

Luckily I had some Darvocet left over from when I'd broken my foot so I was able to take that until I could get the tooth removed since it was a wisdom tooth. Once you start the antibiotic it'll start to feel much better. Hang in there!

Oh, I feel your pain. I have had to have 2 abscessed teeth pulled in the past because I was in the worst pain ever. I ended up having to go to the ER while waiting for my apt. both times. Once the ER nurse told me that tooth pain is one of the worst kinds pain there is, and most mothers agree that it is worse than childbirth, lol. If your usual method of pain control isn't working, see if your dentist will call something stronger in for you.

I hope you feel better soon!

Oh I am SO sorry...I have been through the wringer with dental problems for the past year (I'm talking 2 pulled teeth, 2 root canals, 1 bridge, and 4 or 5 crowns----can we tell I went decades w/no insurance and only minimal care!!!)

When it's gone on for so long, the 800mg ibuprofen just won't cut it. I ended up on Lortab (wonderful, although it makes me a bit itchy), and at times on Mepergam (spelling?) Both really worked well. Unfortunately using Anbesol and Orajel were out of the question because the cold gel hitting my teeth made the pain shoot through the roof.

Hopefully you'll get your meds and feel so much better soon...I know I am a much happier person now than I was last year!

Absolutely agree. I was in labor with Rachel for 43 HOURS...and thought that was the worst pain I'd ever been in...until last year's dental mess. Give me childbirth any day over severe tooth pain.

This is going to sound ridiculous but dab a tip of a cotton bud in perfume and press it to the affected tooth, it will go away in seconds. My tooth hurt last Xmas so bad and my dad made me do it. It worked! LOL

I was going to suggest cloves too, it's actually what a lot of those OTC toothache meds are based with. Hope you feel better soon!

1 part Kahlua
1 part creme
1 part vodka
Multiply that by 3 or 4 and it always numbs MY pain. LOL

Oragel PM. It works great. Stays in place for a really long time. Swishing with salt water or peroxide also helps as does brushing really well and following with some listerene. Heat packs and ice packs sometimes help. I had a toothache like two months ago and the dentist called in some meds for me and it took all the antibiotics before it really started feeling better. The last thing I can suggest is a clove or clove oil as a natural remedy

I used to have incredibly horrible sinus infections. The roots of my teeth practically lie right next to them and when I got those infections, there wasn't a tooth in my head that didn't scream out in pain.
My md used to give me a mix of tylenol 3 and some form of darvocet that would usually knock it, but one time it was so bad, I ended up in the emergency room and got a shot of Demerol, lol. Now I know that's not natural but boy oh boy, that was the best stuff ever, lol. I didn't hurt anywhere, lol.
You have my complete and utter sympathy though. There is absolutely nothing worse that tooth pain. My broken ankle couldn't hold a candle to it :p

Clove oil is an old remedy but it's suppose to work.

Sorry you're in such pain - I imagine it's excruciating! tooth pain is THE worst pain. I'd go thru childbirth again over a toothache!!
