Cuticles...

Help!!!! I have worn acrylic nails for so long and never had any problems with my cuticles. I have now had my fake nails off for about 2 months and now my cuticles are splitting, peeling, cracking and are extremely painful. I knew you girls would have some suggestions for me....

-steps up- FINALLY something i know! lol. one nail technician, at your service.

it's probably a reaction to not having them. how long did you wear them? like, years and years and years? your nails probably got used to having them on, and getting them filled every two weeks. when you have acrylics, you're getting them done all the time. and your nails get used to having work done. this includes your cuticles. cause they put lotion on you, right?

try using a heavy heavy lotion at night, after you take a shower. your skin is softer. rub it onto your cuticles. or better yet, get some cuticle oil instead of lotion.

if it's not too much of a monetary output, i'd suggest a manicure every other week. cause it'll get them conditioned again.

This exact thing happens to me too! I just took mine of a couple months ago and my hands look terrible. I think the reason the cuticles stay nice with acrylics is because we go in on a regular basis for a minicure.

I would try to either continue the manicures, just without the acrylics or get some cuticle oil and use it EVERY day.

it's cause your skin gets used to it, and your nails get used to it. cuticle oil is key. you should be able to find it at CVS or something. i haven't looked, i buy it from a supplier for work. or, if you have a Sally Beauty Supply, they'll have it.

SOLAR OIL! greatest stuff ever. it's what we use at work. i doubt you'll be able to find it unless you go to a salon and ask for it. cause i don't think anyone other than salons and salon suppliers are legally allowed to sell it.

oh, and if you notice like, infection or anything, go to the doctor. cause that can happen too. from having the skin open and raw again.

Thanks girls! I stopped getting the nails because of $$$$ so I guess I'll buy some cuticle oil and give myself a manicure every week until I can afford to get them done again. :) I really do miss my nails....

This is exactly why removing my nails will be at a last resort. I used to spend the entire winter with bandaids on my fingertips because my cuticles and the area around my nails would split and bleed. Once I got acrylics, I never had that problem. My nail girl is awesome and I just went 26 days between backfills and I didn't have one broken nail. I usually try to hold off as long as possible and just do backfills with no fills inbetween to save money.

I hope they heal quickly for you!
