Unzipping and more...there is a question too

There is a question in all of this...I promise!!

I currently use CAM unzip b/c I was having some issues unzipping folders created on MAC. Haven't had any problems with it until now. Over the past few months my computer has been going crazy...we thought it was time for a major facelift but DH and I got thinking today...all the problems seemed to have started when I got CAM unzip and when I started scrapbooking on the computer.

My computer takes forever to turn on or restart...it will light up and then turn off...it does this SEVERAL times before it finally will come on and stay on. It all started back in October when I really got into digi scrappin'. DH did an overhaul last week and it seemed to be working fine, until today...I purchased a whole bunch of goodies on Saturday (never turned my computer off) and today...which then I did a restart. The problem came back...it took forever to come on again.

DH is going to do the same thing again and take notes of what the comptuer found....then we will wait and see if it happens again. He even suggested I purchase something....shhhh, we won't tell him I already spent over $50!!! LOL

So....what unzipping program do you use?
What operating system do you have? I have VISTA.
Has anyone ever had this problem before? I felt like was was going nuts b/c it would never to it for DH until last week!!!

If you have ACDSee, which version do you have?

I really need to figure out if it is CAM unzip that is creating some problem with my computer...DH said that he cleaned the registry last week and a week before that he found thousands of temporary files that were taking up WAY TOO much space on my hard drive.

Check out this thread about unzipping Mac files using Vista. It helped me when I first got my lappy last year!

Robin showed me this thread when I first having the problems but it was a completely different error message for me. I ended up posting a screen shot of my errors on a baby board (they have a scrapbooking section) and they told me they were getting the same error and try cam unzip.

I use ACDSee 10 Photo Manager (not the pro version) for all my unzipping needs!!! I :wub: it!!!

I know lots of people have had sucess using stuffit have you tried this?

I swear by WinRAR...

I had some trouble with a MAC file the other day and was directed to WinRAR. It's working quite well for me now. I was using the Windows unzipping utility before that.

I have Vista too and I just double-click the .zip file and then drag the files to my scrap folders. so I don't use a special program.

I use Izarc and don`t plan on changing it. It's awesome and unzips all kinds of files.

That's what I do too. No issues. Easy peasy.

So I have vista, and was having errors totally different than that thread for some (not all) mac files. I still just unzip through windows, but what I've discovered is that i have to manually drag files out of my zipped folders (only the mac ones i was having issues with) and I have to be sure I'm not dragging folders but the files themselves.... so for example if i have a kit to unzip, I'll create an empty alpha folder on my desktop and then go into the zipped folder all the way into the alpha folder, select all the files, and then drag it over to my folder. It unzips them for me and doesn't give me that wonky error.

That solves the problem for me everytime. gl!

Thanks Shawna, I'll have to try this when I get home! I have a few files from the Christmas countdown that I couldn't unzip the way I normally do with Vista.

I have xp, but I am currently using extractnow and it works beautifully. You may want to give it a try =)
