proof that kids from my city have a special accent.. ^_^

I popped outside for a minute.. and this guy comes out. starts talking to me (which is rare :p since everyone here seems to speak spanish).. I didn't recognize the guy so he starts telling me that he's visiting his mom blah blah.. so I started chatting and he's like how long have you lived here.. I said a couple of years.. blah blah blah.. and he stops.. and says.. you were born and raised here weren't you.. I can tell by the way you talk.. haha.. guess it came out a lil too clearly :p
 
Do you say "wikkid" (wicked) and "ahsum" (awesome)?? Cuz those are my favs :) We always tease my gf from RI. When we're all together we say wikkid 9403894023850392 times :p
 
Last week I left a voicemail on DH's phone and he was going through his cell phone mail box deleting old voicemails the other day.
He was playing them on speaker and when mine played I whipped around and was like "Omg, am I REALLY that redneck sounding?"
Apparently I am.
 
That's hillarious, La! And you thought you didn't have an accent. lol I don't think I have a huge Southern accent, but when I'm around my family from Ohio, they always tease me about it! I don't care though, b/c I'm proud of where I'm from! I love being around my family that's from Texas! It really brings out my accent! :) lol
 
hey hey hey... i'm guilty of the wicked thing too. i say it all the time. i swear, only people around here say it.
i generally don't slip into the whole 'pahk the cah' thing though. only if i've been talking to a family friend. lol. she's got a major accent.
 
I always know an East Coaster when I hear one say, "Wicked."
It's just not a word that we say in sunny southern California where we have NO accents. :)
 
People say the same thing about me. I had a friend who lived in Brockton, Mass. and he SWORE I had a southern accent. I have lived in Florida my whole life though and while some words do have a little accent I suppose I dont really think most of Florida has an accent associated with it.
 
My husband tries to get me to speak in a New York or Boston accent (since I'm from all over Connecticut, I picked up both) - sometimes he catches me doing one of them (usually New York) without thinking about it. My accent is usually not as strong as those two, but it's definitely New England. I used to think I adapted to Texas when I started using "y'all" in my everyday speech, but everyone knew I was a Northeasterner down there and even now here in Ohio.
 
Aww Im actually jealous! See i WANT an accent. None whatsoever being from CT. Though I sound like a 15 year old LOL.
